A pug as you can see from their size is a toy breed. Which usually has a larger head than the body. It's not all about looks, it's about what's inside, these dogs have a wonderful personality. The word "pug or "puge" might of came from Old English which was another name for playful devil or monkey.

Temperment

They can be stubborn at certain things, but can also be very sociable and playful, charming, smart and are known to suceed at dog obedience skills. They are very sensitive to the human tone so harsh punishment is strictly unnecessary. While these dogs get along very well with other dogs and pets they love human attention and love to be around the action. Pugs can get in weird moods and start doing things they've never done before if you don't spend enough time with them or ignore them. When the owner is away the pug will occupy itself if nobody is around.

Appearance

While in the eighteenth century pugs use to look long and leannow, the look is short, square, cobby bodies. Their heads carried on arched necks should be substancial and round, the better to accentuate their big bulgy eyes. The wrinkles on the foreheads distinct and deep, the earsshould be small and smooth. the lower teeth should be forward more than the top, giving an under-bite.

Coat & Color

Their fine glossy coats can be fawn, apricot, silver and black. Pugs or different coat types shed to different degrees, some being and some shedding less. regular brushing and bathing cuts the shedding down a bit. Fawn pugs having an undercoat and an overcoat, are the most notorious for shedding. Breeders and owners have gone to great lengths to control this characteristic.
