Pulling Off A Gothic Style

Your sick of the preppy bright clothes. They constrict what your true personality is like. Your enamored with darkness, subtle colors, and have a taste for red......licorice.

Well the gothic style may just be for you. Gothic style is universal in it's dark colors, heavy usage of mascara to highlight the eyes, and casual feel. Of course, your a rebel, not conforming to the preppy look Thats not to say the ladies can't put on a great outfit in the Gothic genre, with some sexy appeal.

What I will highlight are the main facets of the Gothic style, and what one has to keep in mind to stay true to it.

The Gothic face is a striking, definite look. People akin it to a vampire look, but I consider it more alluring, and sexy if executed correctly.

The skin color of a goth is pale, no exception. People with a natural alabaster skintone are perfect candidates, and dont need to use any powder. If you dont have naturally pale skin, then what you should do is use a combination of white powder and one's foundation. Stay away from greasy oil based facial powders, and the target is PALE, not WHITE. Dead white skin is not cute.

Now on to the eyes, lips, and eyebrows. A gothic style calls for either pure black or pure red lips. One's clear alabaster skin should complement the eyebrows, lips and eyes. So apply dark eyeliner on the eyes, and ehance the eyebrows.

If you have large bags, dont apply any near the bottom, and use that foundation.

A goth's clothing matches a goth's style of makeup, and personality. Goth style centers around dark sombering colors. The occasional chain, and fishnet is also popular, and can add flair to a goth's style.

Dark purple, black, and burgundy (color of dark blood), are popular clothing colors. Girls, it's popular for you to use a corset, the thin look is loved in the gothic circle. Sometimes gothics wear the corset outside of their clothes, just to add to the impractical style. For guys, pointed shoes, long fitting pants, or dark leather trench coats are popular to wear.

Accessories to add with a gothic style are chains, bracelets with metal studs, and the ever popular body piercings. The color of these metals is usually silver. Bracelets, if they are the thin rubbery kind are popular to wear bunched up. Chains are attached to black jeans, or coats, and body piercings are put on the nose, lip, or eyebrows.

Whats a style without the proper attitude. Juding from the clothes associated with Goth style, it is not suprising that the user has a fascination with death. The pale skin, blood red lips, and skulls convey that message clearly.

I'm not saying to just be preoccupied by death by all means, but it is important to realize that the style is centered around that. A goth is usually the quite, and enigmatic intellectual.

You are magnetic, but quiet. A goth's eyes draw you in, but there is a shroud of mystery around them. So keeping a cool countenance, and observant attitude will complement your style. Attitude can make all the difference in authenticating one's style!
