Pumpkin Seeds and Prostate Health

Pumpkin seeds have long been associated with prostate health, and it is believed that a component in the seed helps stop the over-production of prostate cells and with it the enlargement process (BPH benign prostatic hyperplasia). This relationship is not fully understood at the moment, as it is with saw palmetto for example; but the carotenoids and omega 3 fatty acids found in pumpkin seeds are believed to be among some of the active compounds required for good prostate health.

It has been found, however, that men with a higher amount of carotenoids in their diet have less risk of developing BPH which is where the interest in pumpkin seeds and prostate health probably originated from.

An equally important debate is the best way to take the seeds in our diet. Do we use pumpkin seed oil extract or do we just eat the seeds as a snack – sprinkled on food or simply just to eat them as they come. I personally prefer the latter because I enjoy the taste and the texture. But the question still remains as to how much of the seeds you have to consume in order to get the same health benefits as you would from the concentrated oil extract. Perhaps one day we may get the answer. I personally think that if the seeds are eaten daily as part of a good and varied diet, then your prostate will be the better for it.

This humble seed is also high in Zinc which has long been associated with the prostate gland in a positive way, but the jury is still out on that one because research results are not conclusive. Pumpkin seeds can be bought just about anywhere and they are reasonably priced too, so why not give them a go.

I will finish this article as normally do by banging on about positive benefits that massage can have on your prostate. And I don’t mean the invasive internal type either. Just a simple piece of non medical kit that you sit on, fully clothed, is all you need. I really do think that every man over the age of 45 should have one of these it is that important. Take a look and see for yourself.
