Holding Hands vs Timeout with Fighting Siblings

This may sound silly to most. But if you have kids, I know you have been there, driving down the road and the kids wont stop arguing. The constant bickering and argueing, and you feel like you want to run away. Seems like it never ends. I have a 15 yr and 12 yr old boys. When they were little, they would constantly pick at one another. I tried time outs, taking things away, sending them to their rooms. But yet a few minutes later it would be the same thing all over again. So after watching a movie about 2 soldiers who didnt get along that had to spend the entire day holding a log and walking and doing kicthen duty together, i thought my kids are to young for that. And then it came to me. What if they had to sit and hold hands, at first i tried something like tieing their hands together, but that seemed a little extreme, so I made them sit on the couch and hold hands, and told them I would take away all their favorite things and give them away. They sat their looking at me holding hands as if I was the worse monster in the world. I didnt hear one peep out of them. And after about 5 minutes of this, they decided to be nice to each other. So this was my punishment every time the arguments started, and then all I would have to do is say do you want to hold hands, and the fighting would stop. This might not work for everyone, but it worked for me and brought some peace and quiet.
