What is a "Puppy Cut" ?

A Puppy cut or kennel cut is a haircut designed for poodles. Telling your groomer you would like a puppy cut for your poodle means the body, legs, top of the head, tail, ears and face are all going to be the same length. You, the poodle owner, must tell the groomer how long to make the haircut. "Puppy cut" does not denote the length of the cut only the style.

When a poople receives a puppy cut there will be no bands, pom-poms, top knot or poofy tail. The entire haircut is all one length.

Best advice for telling the groomer a haircut you wish for your dog to wear is describe the haircut in great detail. Be sure to tell the groomer:

  • How long you would like the body to be cut
  • How long you would like the legs to be cut
  • How you would like the feet
  • How you want the face
  • How you want the tail
  • How you want the ears
  • How you want the top of the head.

Keeping all this in mind when describing to the groomer what style you would like for your dog is the best way to getting a great cut both you and your dog will love!

No fancy names, please. Just the facts.
