Problems Regarding Your Puppy's Health

Puppies are very susceptible to diseases, because their immune system is still developing. When a puppy arrives in your home, you should be vigilant for any odd behaviors. When it’s been in your house for two days, you should take it to a veterinarian for a general check up. This way, you can be certain that your pup is in good health. They should be closely monitored to avoid any puppy health problems.

When your pup goes to the vet for the first time, make sure that it will be a good experience. Most puppies will develop anxieties when they have bad experiences. If this happens, it will be harder for you to take your pooch to the vet because of his resistance. You should try taking with you his favorite toys or treats, just to help your pup get over his anxieties.

The best weapon against puppy health problems is prevention. By taking the necessary steps for preventing any health problems, you are lessening your pup’s chances of acquiring harmful diseases in the future. One way of doing this is by giving your puppy vaccinations. Your veterinarian will give your pup its first set of vaccines when it is four to eight weeks old. This will help your pet fight infectious diseases. Usually, the same vaccines will be reinforced to your pup once or twice during his development. After the last vaccine has been given, it will take about a week before your puppy will be protected. So until then, you should always keep a close eye on your pup.

Knowing when your puppy is sick or not can be a challenge. There are many serious and potentially fatal infectious diseases that your pooch could catch. That’s why it is vital to start his shots early. The symptoms of these harmful puppy health problems may vary. Sometimes they can also be signs of a much less serious ailment. Symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting, a runny nose, or loss of appetite can be signs of a minor puppy health problem or it can also be the start of a fatal health issue. When you notice significant changes in your puppy’s behavior, you should always tell the veterinarian about this. Occasionally, it may be a sign of an underlying health problem.

Spaying your female pup or neutering your male pooch will also help prevent any fatal diseases in the future. A spayed female dog has an almost zero chance of getting mammary gland cancer. Spaying means the removal of the ovaries and uterus. A neutered male dog, on the other hand, will have a lesser chance of acquiring testicular cancer and prostate problems. Neutering means the removal of the testicles.

Puppy health problems are easily solved with prevention, early detection, and precise treatment. Puppies are very dependent, because they still can’t fend for themselves. They need you to look out for them. All you have to do is keep a keen eye and pay attention to their needs. Taking care of a puppy is much like taking care of a baby, they cry/howl, they sleep, they eat, they play, and they poop. All you have to do is give them the love that they deserve.
