Purchase Domain Name
62It's Easy to Get Your Own Domain Name
The process of registering your own domain name varies according to the country concerned.
Some countries require you to be a resident, and/or have a current business registration in that country. (ie australia)
In other countries, it's much simpler. All you need is a credit car and a pulse, and you can register any domain name that has not been registered by anyone else.
Registering a .COM domain name
Here's the process for registering the most popular type of domain name - a U.S. based .com name.
First of all, you need to find a name that is available for registration. My other hub xxx explains how to do this.
After you have found the name you want to register, here's what you do. The exact steps may vary according to the domain registrar you choose, but basically they will be the same.
1. Choose a domain registrar or reseller. There are hundreds to choose from, and you can easily find them with a search on Google. (I personally recommend that you use namecheap.com because of their great service, and user interface)
2. Open an account at the domain registrar. This is free, and you'll have to provide your contact details. You'll also create a login username and a password. Store these securely. Anyone who has them can take total control of your internet business.
3. Click on the link that says something like "Register a domain", and type in the domain name that you want to register. You'll be told whether the name is available or not.
4. If the name is available, you'll be given the option to register it. You can nortmally register it for periods between 1 and 10 years. Just put in your credit card details, and the domain name will be yours.
5. Now that you have your domain name, you need to connect it to your website. Most domain registrars make it simple to connect your domain to any website in the world - so you can connect it to your blogger site, your hubpages profile, or indeed any site in the world.
Connecting Your Domain Name to your Own Website
If you have set up your own web hosting account, the web host will give you a couple of special addresses called nameservers.
From your domain registration control panel, you add these nameserver addresses to your domain name. This process is called DELEGATION, which is just a fancy name that means "Connecting your domain name to your web hosting account."
That's about it.You now need to create your website at whatever place you have linked to your website.

Eric Graudins.
