Purchasing Gold Coins

If you want to really make a sound investment and increase your potential for getting more value for your money, you can try to find real gold coins that were produced by governments that wanted to produce these gold coins to use as currency. They are very valuable as collector’s items, but you can find them for just a small premium above the value of the gold contained in the coin. If you want to take this route and invest in real gold coins, there are some things you need to consider before you make your investment decision. One is that you’re going to need to buy these coins in bulk because finding them is a lot of work for dealers. They need to work with only large orders so they can be compensated appropriately for their time and costs in procuring these types of coins. Something else to consider is that you’re going to need to do some extra work to figure out the exact value of each coin. Many of the newer coins have exactly one ounce of gold so calculating the value is easy. The older coins do not have a standard amount of gold in each coin so you’ll need to calculate the value of each one individually so you know what you’re getting. You’ll also need to remember that there are a large number of real gold coins available so you’ll need to do some extra work to figure out which ones you want to invest in. Finally, older coins may have fractional amounts of gold, reducing their actual gold content. However, the age of the coin is also as important as the gold content, so collectors may actually be willing to pay more for a lower gold content if the coin is a particularly old or rare one.

There are many types of these gold coins available and it really is like getting something for nothing since you’re paying almost the same price for an old coin with a greater value than you’d be paying for a new coin with less historical value and no value to collectors. Some of the types of gold coins available include Austria Coronas, British Sovereigns, Belgium Francs, Chile Pesos, Colombia Pesos, Denmark Kroner, Germany Marcks, Italy Lire, Netherlands Guilders, Russia Roubles, and the USA 10 Dollar Eagle. Investing in these older coins can help you to realize a greater return on your investment for just a slightly larger initial investment.

I love collecting bullion coins. It can be profitable, but is also interesting. Old coins tell a story, and I like to imagine the people that held one of my own coins when they were new and shiny.

I did put out a simple tutorial so people can figure out the gold or silver content of coins, bars, or jewelry, and get a rough estimate of the value of the bullion they contain.

Old coins are interesting because you can get a great sense of what the culture was all about during that specific time. I wonder if these coins hold a monetary value. If they do, how much would be?
