Ask Susan Peters - Purina Healthy Dog Foods?

Purina Pet Food has done an awful job of making healthy dog foods. Healthy dog foods do not include needless grains and other pet health damaging ingredients.

Brewer's rice and brewer's dried yeast are by-products of beer production. There you go, your little pet gets what is left over after a beer run, the stuff not fit for human consumption.

Poultry could be chicken or turkey but not one in particular. By-products are floor sweepings collected from a rendering plant. Anything that hits the floor and is not fit for human consumption is by-product. By-products can't have "added" feathers but the ones included in the mess are just fine. Meal means the floor sweepings have had the water removed and the feathers, poultry poo, whatever has hit the floor is now concentrated.

Natural Flavor. I always like the way pet food companies hide the use of manure in the ingredients. Natural flavor is made from the manure of the animal the pet food company wants the pet food to taste like. If natural flavor were an actual part of the ingredients and not an added ingredient the pet food company would not have to list natural flavor as a seperate ingredient.

Beef Tallow - Used to encourage a pet to eat a product the pet would not normally eat.

Salt - should not be added to a pet's diet.

Garlic - Known to be toxic to cats and dogs.

Sodium selenite is mainly used in the manufacture of colorless glass - From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Pet food producers are using ingredients unfit for human consumption which are killing our pets. The ingredients in pet food must be changed!

The use of Corn, Wheat, and Soy are causing such awful conditions in pets including:

  • Dry and itchy skin
  • Fever
  • Ear aches
  • Ear infections
  • Hot Spots on the skin
  • Bad breath
  • Dental disease
  • IBD
  • Hair loss
  • Sore feet
  • Abnormal nail growth
  • Bloat
  • Weight gain
  • Tumors
  • Moles and warts
  • Seizures
  • Blindness
  • Deafness
  • Heart conditions
  • Kidney conditions
  • Liver conditions
  • Early pet death

These companies need to be held accountable for the injuries to our pets and our best friends early deaths!

Same on you Purina Pet Foods for not making Healthy Dog Foods - Susan

Purina one lamb and rice made my dog violently ill in march of 2008, I took him off it thinking it was a virus or some such thing, he got better, put him back on it and he was ill again vomiting, took him off again and he is all better, hasn't been on it since. I keep waiting for a recall........

Zeus,

You will not see a recall from Purina on Purina One. The ingredients Purina is using are not tainted. The problem with Purina One is the ingredients (corn, wheat, soy, BHA, BHT (antifreeze) are toxic to cats and dogs. Purina is not doing anything different than all the other pet food companies by using these toxic ingredients. Sad, isn't it?

I'm glad you were able to save your dog but you need to make sure what ever you feed your dog does not include corn, wheat, or soy.

Susan
