Well, we can say they didn't put any poo-poo in this one. That seems to be the only saving grace for this product and the producer realized our cats don't eat wheat!

My Maine Coon had urinary tract problems within weeks of changing his food to Purina Indoor Formula. I immediately changed his diet and he's been fine since. The trip to the ER vet was horrible..urinary probs. can be fatal! Now I'm wondering if this was due to the garbage they put in our pet's food? Thank God he's recovered..I hope this recall prompts serious changes or our pet's will continue to suffer.
Just do ALOT of research to learn what's the best for your cat. Be careful not to be swayed by "sales pitches" and here's a site explaining how to know what's in your pet's food..in plain English.

Take care
I have recently changed my cat's food to this as well. With in 3 weeks he has had uniary tract problems. He is at the vet's as I type. He has a blockage, Crystal's and a bladder infection. I do feel it is due to this food. Although I do have another male cat and he hasen't been effected by this.
Watch the grains. Cats are meat eaters and grains (Corn, Wheat, and Soy) are toxic to our pets. Several pet food producers use these grains, not because our pet's diet requires them, but to reduce production costs. Watch for animal digest, as well. Animal digests is Manure. They collect the manure from feed lots, etc. Animal Digest is widely used as "flavoring".
DO NOT FEED THIS TO YOUR CATS!!!! This food caused my cat's urinary tract to block. He almost died! I have switched him to a low magnesium cat food, and he has been fine ever since, thank God.
My Cat is displaying symptoms of poisoning. He is only 2 years old and has become lethargic and will not eat. He has been on Happy Tails Dry and Purina dry within the last month. I know they are not on the list but it seems odd for him to go from a healthy cat to a cat seemingly ready to die within a week or two. I am scared and he is to be seen by a Vet today.
What did the vet say? Happy Tails has recalls. You should check the list and don't forget about "cross contamination".

Hi Everyone,
I initiated a poll regarding Purina food and pet symptoms. The goal is to find out the TRUTH about the food, ie gluten, flour, etc. and if it may be contaminated, as Purina does source "important nutritional supplements" and "wheat gluten" from China. http://www.purina.com/recallFAQs.aspx
Once, and if, the Poll has amassed enough statistics, my plan is to send the examples to Purina and the FDA, with the hope that the food would be examined, and a recall made, instead of the "withdrawal" of selective foods. There are far too many American dogs and cats who have become ill or who have passed, in my opinion, while eating food products by this manufacturer and its subsidiaries, and it appears it is not random, as the timing is just too coincidental with the contamination fiasco.
If anyone would like to participate in this Poll and share his or her pet's symptoms, here is the link:

I truly appreciate any individual's efforts in stepping up to the plate, as we all deserve an answer in this quest for an American Truth.
AN ENDEAVOR FOR AN AMERICAN TRUTHCALLING ALL PURINA CAREGIVERSWOULD YOU PLEASE TAKE A POLL?http://itchmoforums.com/index.php?topic=441.0
Once, and if, the Poll has amassed enough statistics, my plan is to send the examples to Purina and the FDA, with the hope that the food would be examined, and a recall made, instead of the "withdrawal" of selective foods. There are far too many American dogs, cats and small animals who have become ill and passed, and in my opinion, there are far too many NEW cases of pets BECOMING ILL while eating food products, which have NOT been RECALLED. And, it appears THIS is NOT random, as the timing is just too coincidental with the recent contamination fiasco.Initiating this Poll is an endeavor to see if numbers will step up, so I can print out conclusive examples to forward, along with my name only, unless you want your name included, to Purina and the FDA. A second goal is to find out about the food, i.e. gluten, flour, nutritional supplements, etc. and if it could possibly be contaminated, as Purina sources "important nutritional supplements" and "wheat gluten" from China. http://www.purina.com/recallFAQs.aspPlease, help this cause for RECALL. One is such a lonely number against such a huge conglomerate.Sincerely,Donna
P. S. I took the poll myself, and found out I set it up the wrong way. Instead, would you please post your comments, or use the email address supplied, if you would like your comments to remain confidential. Thank you.
My cats and dogs eat manure, from my niece's farm.
Hard to stop them, but, intentionally putting it into food, bothers me .
My cats do well on Purina One and Indoor formula, but I am feeding Chicken Soup

Purina may not be involved in the pet food recall but it is involved in a Pet Food class action due to all the sick and dying pets which eat Purina.
Sandi,
Your pets eat manure at the farm because their diet is lacking minerals and they are trying to get the minerals from manure of animals on good feed.

Within 20 minutes after I switched my cat to Purina Cat Chow Indoor formula, she started vomiting. I am returning this product to the store.
My cat ended up with such a sever allergic reaction to this food that both of her eyes became "huge" and red (like pink eye) AND she started pulling out her hair on her belly. My vet consulted with Cornell Vet school and her pictures ended up on websites for vets to consult each other on extreme cases. Her blood had to be drawn and she was put on steroids.
All I know...within 1 week of changing her food to Purina Cat Chow Indoor Dry her symptoms began and rapidally worsened. Within 2-3 weeks of switching her food back to Whole Foods Brand and being on steriods plus a few other medicines, her symptoms began to fade.
If you love your animal DO NOT feed him/her Purina.
I switched pet foods and bought Purina Cat Chow Dry Indoor Formula - I truly regret it. My cat developed a urinary blockage. He's currently at the vet staying his second time overnight trying to clear all the high amount of crystals they found in his urine. I'm completely outraged at all the online feedback I've read about this product! Even after doing just a little research for myself about urinary infections in cats, it brought up posts from people who feel this brand is what caused their cat to get sick, have urinary tract problems, and either discovered it too late or had to put their pet down because the medical costs were too much! This is saddening. Why isn't this product being recalled?!
PLEASE DON'T FEED THIS TO YOUR PETS!
I bought Purina Cat Chow from WalMart and feed it to two cats. The oldest cat got very sick that very night, and I thought she was dying. The youngest cat ate it and looked horrible for weeks, lost weight horribly, and, no direct proof, but it died months later from an intestine tumor that may had been related to this new food. My older cat is still alive, but her behavior is very much different and she will not eat dry food alone. If Purina is hiding something, they should acknowledge it and WalMart should stop selling it until proven otherwise.
The dry food that I bought from WalMart was the Purina Cat Chow Indoor Formula.
Yikes. Scares me... I mix my cats food, indoor formula and urinary tract formula.. I have boy cats. I used to also mix in senior cat with it. So far my cats are doing well and have been on this for quite a while. I still my switch to another formula just to be safe. My neighbor just told me her cat (female) had 2 urinary tract infections within a year on the mix of indoor. Her doctor told her to use Science Diet.
i usually feed my cats urinary tract from another brand but i had forgotten to get some so i bought a box of purina from the nearest store. all my cats started vomiting and one got really sick. he has passed now. was it purina i dont know i've done this before and it this has never happen.
My cat started vomiting within 24 hours of switching her to Purina one INDOOR ADVANTAGE hairball and healthy weight formula! I didn't understand and know she is has blood in her urine and sick. The vet put her on antibiotics for a UTI now. In her 8 years with me she has NEVER been sick of had medical problems so it's pretty easy to see the cause. Also the Indoor advantage has spinach in it along with the normal listing of magnesium. Magnesium is horrible for a cats Urinary Health... I called and reported it with Purina but all they did was offered me a money back coupon... that doesn't quite make it better.
I have multiple cats and recently lost my Bernie who was only 4 years old. I fed the Purina Indoor Formula Cat Chow and I think it caused Bernie's death and urinary tract problems in one of my other male cats. Bernie did not show any symptoms of anything being wrong, he ate the night before and was playing. I awoke and found him lying dead on the bathroom floor. He had a necropsy and the vet said that his kidneys were discolored (she found that to be very odd) and his bladder was extremely small. He had not released any urine at the time of his passing. He did not show any signs of a urinary tract blockage and the vet says she has no idea of the cause of death. Pending toxicology on his kidneys. I pulled all of the Purina cat chow and threw it out of my house (saved some for analysis) and replaced it with Iams Proactive Health. I miss my Bernie and if this food is the cause, then I will make sure that it is pulled, Bernie will not have died in vain.
