My dog, Bug, loves this stuff. Since, I've been feeding it to her, I've noticed her energy level has gone down. She's a Collie, so a drop in energy is very noticable. Does anyone have anything to say about the Atta Boy dog food? I've been seeing a new one out, Atta Boy High Performance, and was wondering if it was okay. I'm looking for foods that don't have yeast in them and Atta Boy is the only one I've found that isn't $30.
Have you ever heard of a dog being allergic to yeast? Every time I give Bug yeast or dog food that has yeast in it, she gets hive-like rashes all over her and looses her hair. She's a Collie, so hairloss is very noticable.
Mich,
I am on vaction I will return on the 11th. I will try to do a review for you if you can provide an ingredient listing for me. I can not find an online site with the pet food ingredients for Atta Boy.
Thanks
Susan
Mich,
Your dog is probably not allergic to the yeast but to the other grains associated with the yeast. Brewers yeast is a by-product of wine and beer making so has a lot of barley, millet, etc. along with fermination products associated with brewers yeast. All these mentioned ingredients are harmful to dogs and cats.
Susan
I stopped giving it to her, so I don't have an ingredients list. My sister gives yeast to her dog, and he's just fine with it. In fact he now won't eat his food without it. Then again, we joke that he has an iron-clad stomache. Our vet even said it was very good for them and that it was impossible for Bug to be allergic.
Mich,
I used brewers yeast in my home cooked meals. Many times the brewers yeast in commercial poducts is a by-product of beer and wine production and has all the fermintation products and grains to go with it.

Momma,
Corn, wheat and soy are the causes of your distress. Remove the grains and you will see a huge imporvement.
Susan
This is a comment to YNGMOMMA826.. You said your dog was getting bloody stool/Dhiarria, Vomit, & loss of energy? Do you live in/near the woods or any streams or any place where there could possibly be any kind of wild animals?? if your dogs seem to get progressivly worse even after taking them off the dog food.. They may have Parvo.. My sisters dog had it.. One day she just seemed very unenergetic which was very strange for her (Very hyper 1.5 yr old pitbull mix) & I said something to my sister & my sis thought she was depressed from the move they just had & stuff.. I didn't think so.. about a day later I noticed she had bloodshot very red eyes.. & she wasn't movign around berally at all still & starting to have dhiarrea then bloody dhiarrea then she was vomiting straight blood & pooping straight blood.. The next day (Day 3) she could berally fidn the strength to pick her head up.. She just layed down all day.. her eyes were completely red where they should be white.. & she continued with the puking/pooping blood. We tried to feed her hot dogs & everything else.. nothing.. wouldn't eat at all.. & my boyfriend said it was prolly parvo & his step sis happened to have a dog that died of it like a week or 2 before & she had a full bottle left of the meds.. (They have to be ordered in or gotten from the vets & the vets were closed -Wkend- & the Emergency vets were full as can be) So we took it hoping that would work & literally 3 days later she was back to playing & running around all over the place eating the dhiarrea stopped & everything.. We finally got ehr into the vets office & they told us by her symptoms a few days b4 she would have died withing hours if we hadn't given that med. to her right then.. She was very lucky. That disease works very fast. She apparently had eaten a dead beaver on the same road (A few days b4 she got sick) that my boyfriends step sis lived on where her dog as well as my boyfriends step fathers dogs had died from the disease.. they had pups so they didn't have as much of a chance.. Hope you find out everything is ok? I know you want to save on vet bills & all.. but thats part of having a dog ya know? or any animal for that matter. My dog recently had pups & one of them had seizures at a very very young age (2 wks is when it all started) & he was constantly in the vets & was too young for meds so we had to save him.. My dad would give him mouth to mouth & hold his tongue so he didn't choke on it in the event of his seizures.. he would release his bladder & bowels every single time he had one.. But he is now almost 1 yr old & still having seizures not as often though & still doing well & stillhealthy even though he had all those problems.. he is also (6 mths) old enough for the medication to control his seizures now. =) I like happy endings.. hehe
Good Luck everyone.
My little Maltese loves this food. All he does is pick out the red and brown chunks though. He's been eating this food all his life (until recently, since it was apparently discontinued) and he's extremely healthy. The vet always remarks that for a dog his age (12) he still acts like a puppy...and he does. He has tons of energy. So I really don't think this food harmed him at all, or is as bad as the reviewer is making it out to sound.
I AM LOOKING FOR KIBBLES N CHUNKS DOG FOOD FOR MY DOG. HE IS SO SPOILED THAT IS ALL HE WILL EAT. MOST PETS WILL EVENTUALLY EAT WHAT EVER YOU PUT OUT BUT NOY HIM. HE WILL GO FOR A WEEK OR MORE AND NOT TAKE A BITE IF YOU RUN OUT OF HIS KIBBLES N CHUNKS. I HAVE COME TO A STOPPING POINT NOW,NOBODY IN TOWN IS CARRYING ITAND I DON!T KNOW WHAT TO REPLACE IT WITH. I HAVE TRIED A COUPLE OF OTHER BRANDS AND HE REFUSES TO EAT.WHAT DO I DO?
I can't find any kibble and chunk dog food anywhere Has it been discontinued???

Try Pedigree or Ol Roy Crunchy Bites and Bones, you can find it at Walmart. No soy to hinder digestion....
We have been feeding our dogs Kibbles and Chunks for a couple of years. My dachshund would get sick periodically and throw up. I never thought it was the food until today. My husband went to purchase a bag and they have taken it off the shelves saying it is killing dogs. No more for my dogs!!!
IS KIBBLES AND CHUNKS DISCONTINUED WALMART DOSENT HAVE IT NEITHER DOES PET SMART? AND ALSO MY DOG WILL NOT EAT ANY OTHER KIND OF KIBBLE AND BITS PRODUCT
What can I replace the Kbble and Chunk with My dogs have been eating it for the last 4 years since the took Tender Chops off the shelf. I have tried feeding them other brands of dog food when Kibble and Chuncks were't aviable and they would have it strowed all through the house trying to find peices they like and they were none that they liked had a mess every day.
I have been trying for weeks for find kibbles and chunks . Everyone seems to have taken it off the shelves. I have 2 golden retrievers. The oldest one started throwing up while eating the kibbles and chunks after drinking water. the food would come out swelled up and whole. this is the only food she has eaten since she was a puppy. I tried her on kibble s and bits and she won't touch it. Has something happened that they took it off the market. Please tell me I have not been feeding my dogs bad food. I have a 115 # golden that did not get sick on it.
Well, after reading comments, Kibble and Chunks is the only food some dogs will eat and other dogs seem to get sick on it..........my dog is one that would eat it as soon as it was put in front of him......others foods fed will be eaten 1/2 to a full day later. Since I haven't been able to find it.....I assume it has been taken off the shelf....to bad!
WELL I GUESS THEY DID TAKE IT OFF THE SHELF, I FED MY DOG CANNED FOOD FOR A MINUTE BUT IT STARTED GETTING EXPENSIVE, SO I TRIED DIFFERENT KINDS OF KIBBLES AND BITS, AND SHE ENDED UP EATING THE KIBBLES AND BITS HOMESTYLE BEEF WITH VEGTABLES, AND ALSO THE HOMESTYLE WITH, CHICKEN, TOOK HER BOUT A DAY OR TWO TO EAT IT BUT SHE DONT EAT AS MUCH AS SHE DID WITH KIBBLES AND CHUNKS, SO I GUESS TRY THAT HOMESTYLE STUFF MIGHT JUST WORK FOR YOUR DOG
dear sir,or madem i have a large bull mast and he has been on kibbles for 9 years can not fine your product any where was it taken of the mkt? called pet stores and grocery stores no one carrys the dog food . i was getting at gilroy calif walmart also lake havasu city walmart they no longer carry it please help ps not kibbles and bits
I have been feeding Purina Kibbles and Chunks to my 9 year old chocolate lab since he was a year old. Recently, I have been unable to find it......pet stores (3 different chains), WalMart, Kmart, grocery stores, SAMS club, no luck at all. I bought a bag of kibbles and bits, thinking the only difference would be the size of the chewy pieces.....WRONG!!!! He could not tolerate it at all, he started having diarrhea several times a day. I then looked at the bag closer and noticed it does not have the Purina brand name any where on the bag. I threw it out right away, unfortunately, because I wish I would have checked into the manufacturer of it. I don't know if anyone else had this trouble with kibbles and bits, but I wouldn't recommend it. I was lucky enough to find a store that had a 17 # bag of Purina Kibbles and Chunks, so bought it right away. The diarrhea stopped immediately. I am close to the end of this bag, and still have not found another supplier.
I have a 15 year old male named Wolf, he's a cocker-chow golden retriever mix. He hs been on Kibbles and chuncks for 14 years. I have 3 other dogs I have rescued a 7 year old and 2 6 year olds. All of which have been on the same food. They have never been sick, always have good vet visits. Now, I can only find the small bags of Kibbles and chunks which is too small for these guys. They range from large to extra large dogs. Sams Club has stopped carrying this brand and the large bags are rapidly disappearing. I don't want to switch an elderly dog that has always done so well on this food, nor do I want to upset the other 3's eating routine. Do you know if they are deleting the Kibbles and chunks or who I contact to find out?
These dogs have eaten Kibbles & Chunks all their lives. Princess is 13.5 and Sade is 7. My last dog was 16 when he died and ate the same food also. I've been buying this food for 25 years and had no trouble. Now I can't find it either. I'd like to see it hit shelves again, too!
I have been feeding our dogs Kibbles and Chunks for over 15 years. I couldn't find it at WalMart or Sam's Club so tried Kibbles and Bits. They won't touch it. I am so mad because my dogs won't eat anything else. I have tried off brands & no luck either. Why did they take Kibbles and Chunks off the shelves? Where can we find it? Please answer. I see others have left questions but no answers. We need help!
I just called Purina and they said the Purina Kibbles & Chunks has been discontinued due to low sales.
I have raised 4 dogs on kibbles & chunks.Ages11,7,5,5.Never had any problems.Always is sold out...have to wait as they are unloading off the truck. The bits contain cheese which is hard on my dogs.I think that if there is a problem Purina owes it to the one's that have been loyal to them in making their purchases to say so.Personally it has something to do with money.Wal-mart's brands of ol'roy have almost doubled since these products are not availble. In these hard times.....just doesn't seem fair!
To everyone on this page....YOU ARE POISONING YOUR DOGS WITH THIS FOOD!! Here's what's wrong with it: Its preserved for a long shelf life with a cancer causing chemical (BHA), it has hydrochloric acid in it, propylene glycol and numerous harmful dyes. Not to mention corn, wheat and soy of which most dogs are allergic to and if they're not...its just very hard for them to digest. It may be inexpensive....but, from all the money spent on vet bills noted in the other posts....i'd rather spend a few more dollars on a all natural, holistic pet food. If you want to know more about the food I distribute, made by a trusted holistic veterinarian...please go to my website or email me @ amlynn_2000@yahoo.com. Do what's right for your pets!!
Well, I'm heart broke. We've been feeding our dogs kibbles and chunks for 15+ years and never had any problem. I wouldn't want to poison my dogs, but if it hadn't been discontinued, I never would have known there was a problem. Now, I do have a problem. I have been trying to find a replacement dog food. The problem is that my girl is alergic to something in the other foods...don't know what. All I know is as of right now she's developed severe dry skin and is loosing a tremendous amount of hair. Her coat is also dull looking. Currently I'm trying to ween the change by giving her olive oil mixed in her food for the dry skin and coat. And some fresh cut garlic, in case it might be fleas. I don't think it's fleas as my husband is alergic to flea bites, and I treat her with frontline monthly, and the itching is since her diet has changed is a new issue. This did happen once about a year ago, and immediately within about 24 hours stopped once she got her kibbles and chunks back. Any recommendations?
We have a 14 year old pitbull housedog that has always ate Kibbles N Chunks. Now we can not find it anywhere. She is loosing weight because she does not like any other food we have tried. She gets sick and vomits on all the other dog foods we have tried. I do not believe Kibbles N Chunks are poisoning dogs or mine would not be perectly healthy after 14 years of eating just that food.

I bought some of the Kibbles and bits and was given some of the kibbles and chunks. The kibbles and bits had "hair" in it. It looked and felt like hair and caused my dog to be very very sick with bloody stools and vomit. She is doing fine now because we got her to the vet quickly and changed her food very quickly. As soon as she came off of the kibbles and bits she got better. I looked at the kibbles and chunks that were given to us and it looked just the same as the other so I threw it away! Not taking any chances with our pets or any one else's pets either! Don't buy this food if you love your pets and don't want high vet bills.
