Purina has done a poor job of making healthy Dog foods. Healthy dog foods do not include needless grains and other pet health damaging ingredients.
Brewer's rice and brewer's dried yeast are by-products of beer production. There you go, your little pet gets what is left over after a beer run, the stuff not fit for human consumption.
The use of Corn, Wheat, and Soy are causing such awful conditions in pets including:
- Dry and itchy skin
- Fever
- Ear aches
- Ear infections
- Hot Spots on the skin
- Bad breath
- Dental disease
- IBD
- Hair loss
- Sore feet
- Abnormal nail growth
- Bloat
- Weight gain
- Tumors
- Moles and warts
- Seizures
- Blindness
- Deafness
- Heart conditions
- Kidney conditions
- Liver conditions
- Early pet death
Use of by-products. By-products are ingredients used which are not fit for human consumption. By-products are often floor sweepings from a rendering plant. "Animal by-product" is rendered product from animal tissues, exclusive of any added blood, hair, hoof, horn, hide trimmings, manure, stomach and rumen contents except in such amounts as may occur unavoidably in good processing practices." Pet food labels contain the words "meal" or "byproduct" on the ingredient label. Inedible byproducts such as bone, fat, heads, hair, feet and condemned offal are used in commercial pet food. These materials are sent to a rendering plant for processing into pet food products.
Natural Flavor. I always like the way pet food companies hide the use of manure in the ingredients. Natural flavor is made from the manure of the animal the pet food company wants the pet food to taste like. If natural flavor were an actual part of the ingredients and not an added ingredient the pet food company would not have to list natural flavor as a seperate ingredient.
Salt does not need to be added to a pet's diet.
Garlic Oil - Known to be toxic to cats and dogs.
Sodium selenite is mainly used in the manufacture of colorless glass - From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Anytime I see a Class Action filed against a company and the products the company produces I would not advise feeding their products to your pets. The pet owners have filed a Class Action against the company for killing their pets.
These companies need to be held accountable for the injuries to our pets and our best friends early deaths!

what is the best kind or type of dog food to feed? with all these low ratings i'm confused. we try to feed a good brand to begin with without breaking our wallet. don't get me wrong-our dogs are so good to us and other people you couldn't ask for much better, so they deserve the best we can afford. but food like like purina one we thought was a good pick-please specify if you can.
Please compare the Purina ONE Lamb & Rice. (This is recommended by my vet in lieu of pricey Hill's Science Diet. Vet also stated the Goodlife Recipe brand had too many fillers in the top 5 ingredients.)
Hi, my cat died 3 years aga from diabetes and it was her food. Since then I have learned alot about pet food. Anything with cornmeal or any kind of meal is not good for pets. My cat had diabetes because of the carbohydrates in the food. They do not need carbohydrates they need meat mostly because that is what they would eat in the wild. I have been giving my cats nothing but Natural Balance by Dick Van Patten with its natural ingredients and the cats are very healthy with a shinny coat. The bag of dry food is $10.99 for a size 6.6 oz bag and it last for about a month. I also have been giving them wet can food from Whole Foods called Lick Your Chops all the ingredients are healthy also. I will never buy any pet food from the grocery store because it is all junk. Hope my message will help some of you!

Once, and if, the Poll has amassed enough statistics, my plan is to send the examples to Purina and the FDA, with the hope that the food would be examined, and a recall made, instead of the "withdrawal" of selective foods. There are far too many American dogs, cats and small animals who have become ill and passed, and in my opinion, there are far too many NEW cases of pets BECOMING ILL while eating food products, which have NOT been RECALLED. And, it appears THIS is NOT random, as the timing is just too coincidental with the recent contamination fiasco.Initiating this Poll is an endeavor to see if numbers will step up, so I can print out conclusive examples to forward, along with my name only, unless you want your name included, to Purina and the FDA. A second goal is to find out about the food, i.e. gluten, flour, nutritional supplements, etc. and if it could possibly be contaminated, as Purina sources "important nutritional supplements" and "wheat gluten" from China. http://www.purina.com/recallFAQs.aspPlease, help this cause for RECALL. On May 15th we awoke to our dog laying on the floor in a puddle of vomit crying and breathing heavily. We took her to the vet and she was in kidney failure. She had never been sick a day in her life. She was 14 and very active and healthy until that day. She had seemed off for a couple of days and I thought that age was setting in. She ate Nutro Natural Choice Senior - I had just changed her to that a few months ago. She probably ate about 6 pounds of the 15 pound bag since I bought the bag.
I am so not shocked about anything bad I read about Purina. When Purina One first came out years ago, I had several bags that when opened, and you scooped out the food, looked like someone swept the floor into the bag. Duh, I finally changed brands...

Yes, I hear everyone complaining but, I need help with which is the best food for dogs. We have 4 & need help to not have to buy the all tooooooo pricey foods but, want our babies to be healthy. Please help.

I think this killed our dog. On March 4th our dog died after 2 days of vomiting, diarreha,dementia,and restlessness. She was panting and crying in pain. We put het down. She was only 11 years old. Bryn -our yellow lab died because of this poisoned dog food!!!
