"Here Honey, hold my keys while we shop". "Mom, can you hold this for me". A womens purse was made for holding women items such as our wallet, lipstick, brush, & makeup, plus some essential items like ID's, coupons, gift cards, spare change, pins, Midol and Tylenol. As times have changed so has the use of the purse. Today the purse is viewed as Mom's catch-all bag, that is where we put stuff we no longer want to hold as we stroll, or a place to put something I know i am going to need but I don't have pockets big enough to hold it, such as a Blackberry, gameboy, PSP, portable DVD player.

Some women have even gone so far as to carry a cross-body bag, sling bags or totes, the purse is no more, we now have the bags, and they are deep and large enough to carry just about everything, including the diapers and formula. Gone are the days of the diaper bags or the overnight bags, now all you need is one large purse(bag) that will serve as any kind of bag you may need to hold the days events/activity.

I remember when you attended a Wedding, Dance, or a black tie dinner affair or a special occassion, women would always have a small black or silver sachet type purse, that was either carried under the arm or carried in the hand, which meant you only had 1 arm/hand free to drink or eat. It was only big enough to hold your ID, a small comb/brush, money, tissues and lipstick, that was all. Sometimes if you were lucky you could fit your compact in it. Today these evening sachets are called clutch bags, or wallet bags. These bags come in all sorts of shapes, colors, beaded, leather, satin, etc. They did add one hands free bag that they call wristlet, this is your small evening bag with a small handle that fits over your wrist and hangs. So now you are able to hold a plate and eat or hold a glass of wine and still shake someones hand.
