Found in the skin of fruits such as lemons and oranges, the oil from the peels of these citrus fruit "killed all insects tested - fire ants, houseflies, stable flies, black soldier flies, paper wasps and grey crickets."
Non-toxic to humans and other animals, scientist are now trying to determine what exactly is in the fruit peels that kills insect so effectively.
Once again, it is truly the "earth's bounty" that has the greatest potential of providing effective and safe insect control. Thereby, making our planet an environmentally safer place to live.

thanks creativeone59 - I was pretty amazed by this myself. I have tried lemonjuice to get rid of black ants and it works very well.
You know Veronica Allen - It's mind boggling when I think about the highly toxic dangerous pesticides that have been allowed to be sold on the market - and this to use in our homes where we live, eat and breathe. I don't embarass easily but I admit I feel this way when I think about how poorly we are treated in this country. Anything toxic goes and we blame the consumer for buying it - but not the deadly manufacturer for making it. And we say that is freedom. We can buy this deadly product or that deadly product. Some freedom of choice.
Sorry about the rant - but our children are suffering the repercussions of these decades of total irresponsibility.
I said all that to say thanks for this great hub with natural alternatives which shouldn't be the first thing we consider but the only thing.

I completely agree BkCreative. It was the residuals from pesticide spray that brought my toddler's eczema condition on. From then on I've been much more aware of how potent and dangerous this stuff really is. From then on I've been passionate about finding an healthier alternative. I've had to become an advocate for my childrens health. I can't expect anyone else to do it. That's why I'm doing everything in my power to choose nature over synthethic, not only is it better for our children, it's better for the whole environment.
I've heard of the citrus peel insecticide, but the pyrethrum Daisy, I've never heard of. I wonder if it can kill spiders. Here in So. Cal, spiders are our nemesis. I am going to look into it. Thanks, for this very well written hub.
Your welcome fastfreta. I believe pyrethrum kills just about any insect. I ran across this information when I was looking for a more natural way to control pest. Since it was synthetic pestisides that was the main contributor to my toddlers eczema condition. Isn't amazing what nature has to offer us?
