Directories help in building backlinks for your website. We all know that, but to gain maximum benefit from directories what matters is not the quantity of directory submission, but the quality of directory in which you have submitted your site.

There are some points which I would like to share in determining whether the directory is a quality one or not.

• Check the site last indexed by google : Before choosing a directory, check when it was last cached, not only the home page but also the inner pages. Since, if inner pages of directory are google indexable,then it is sure that your site link will also be indexable.
• What if directory is not indexed by google. Check its source code and see if there is rel="no follow" link present. If you see that, then skip that directory since it will never be cached by google. However, if directory home page is not indexed and there is no no follow link present, then it means google is yet to visit it.

• Check the links present in directory : Check the directory links in a category where you are going to submit your site. Make sure the links are direct. On clicking link, you should directly go to the website, if however it doesn't happen, drop that directory.

• Check the category page in directory : Before submitting your site check the category in which you are going to submit your site. Make sure it exists. Some directories shows lot of categories in home page, but going inside you will find that no such page exists for your desired category. Better to beware of them.

• Check the links in a directory : Check how many links are present in a directory page. One page should not contain more than 20 or 30 links in it.

• The top category should be broken down : Check the top category of a directory and see whether it is nicely broken down or not. You will see lot of directories in which top categoy will contain lot of links and sub categories won't have much, these directories are poorly organized. Do not submit your site in these directories, as your link will be lost in a sea of links and may be never indexed by google.

Make sure categories in which you submit your site is nicely broken down into sub categories,and one of the subcategory is suitable for your website. This will make sure your site is quickly indexed by google.

Directory Submission is easy, but if not done properly can not give you benefit. That's why it is important to choose a site which provides high quality directory submission service.
