Where Is Queenstown?
Queenstown is situated in the South West of the South Island, of New Zealand. Lake Wakatipu formed by years of glacieral processes ,wraps itself like a blanket around this resort township and many activities take place on the lake during the day and early evening. The Edwardian Steamship ,TSS Earnslaw or Lady of the Lake whimsically carry passengers on a gentle cruise around the lake.
The HMVS Earnslaw also made a brief camero appearance in the movie Indiana Jones and the Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull ,as an Amazon riverboat. She is well loved by the locals and despite her classic vintage still is known as 'the lady of the lake'
People often spread themselves leisurely on the green park surroundings to take in the scenery of the majestic mountain The Remarkables or a break from shopping nearby. ( see sildeshow of photos )

Queenstown New Zealand
My early childhood memories of camping In Arrowtown, just a few miles outside of the tourist heavy town of Queenstown are days filled with sun and laughter. From swimming on the Arrow river, rafting or gold panning there was always some new discovery or unique activity to try.
Sometimes our family travelled around the Southern Lakes area for barbecues ,picnics and even more swimming .My dad, of course favoured the fishing opportunities ,and my mum was content to visit the quaint, unhurried craft stores. My favourite was always the creamiest ice-cream ever ,they sure must have happy cows, because there was nothing better licking those cones ,sun baked bodies, sprawled out on the grass gazing up at some of the most amazing mountain ranges in the South Island ,if not Australasia....( see pic of The Remarkables ,mountain range) that appears to loom up over Queenstown ,New Zealand.
Motion Movies Several locations used for Lord of The Rings Trilology ,see link below for tours and locations.
Queenstown was also used for the 1988 movie ,The Rescue
Another director used Queenstowns scenery for much of the 1988 George Lucas movie The Willow

I noticed you were from Melbourne , my brother and his wife live in Altoona (hope I spelled that right) and I was there for 5 days a few years back. Really loved Vic Square and met some great people.

We would live to visit Australia and New Zealand some day. It is a heck of a trip from the east coast of the US. The closest I've come so far in Guam.
