Advice from Asian Chick: Dating Your Daughter's Friends
65
Question: How do I make my daughter understand that it's OK for me to date her friends? (She reads Ask Cam) -- from Harrison
Dear Harrison,
I don't know what Ask Cam would say to you, but I'd have to say that it's not OK for you to date your daughter's friends. It's not only completely humiliating (and gross) for a kid to see their father making out with their friend, it's also really emotionally damaging. There's nothing worse for a girl than to picture her dad with someone she considers a surrogate sister...
Let me pose it this way: how would you feel if your daughter was dating your friend, making out with one of your close friends... someone who was hanging around when she was born and crawling around?
If you date her friend, it's like you dating your daughter. Obviously they're friends because they have a lot in common... maybe even the same tastes in men. So, if you're completely okay with your daughter being involved with someone your age, one of your good friends, then I can't really argue against you. But what if your daughter choose to date your best friend, who is completely like you in all ways. Maybe he's even balding like you. How would you feel?
Now I have nothing against you dating a younger woman (go as low as 18 if you want). Men across the globe date younger women and vice versa with the women. I am strongly opposed to you dating your daughter's friend. Now, if you're 50 and your daughter is 20 and you want to date a 20-year-old, then go ahead, as long as she doesn't know your daughter.
