Bookshelf of Fad Dieting Plans

Grabbing books in the bookstore for quick healthy weight loss information resulted in a bookshelf of fad dieting plans for me. If you are like me and have an overweight problem and cannot manage diet meal plans, please consider the role that food plays in our lives. The USA is known for being a place of abundant food and many fat people as a result.  Our diets are skewed toward refined sugar, flour-based products, and fat.  Cheap, easy, and so tasty. The problem is that humans evolved on entirely different food and activity - we are wanders and gathers... now we are not wandering, but we still are gathering! 

Fast weight loss means being deprived of life sustaining nutrients for days to see dieting results.  Not only is this extremely unhealthy, it can be life threatening. Everyone knows that the best weight loss programs are slow because your body needs to adjust to new plateaus. What if I would tell you that there is a plan that your body adjusts to as you use it. Incredible, you say!

I want to tell you that our bodies are a lot smarter than the weight loss diet industry wants you to believe. Think about it – humans evolved as wanderers and gatherers. This means we can survive very nicely on feast and famine! Our bodies know when it truly is feast (store it up) and when it truly is famine (slow down and use what reserves you have). So the trick is never let the body think it is feast or think it is famine!

Dieting Akin to Famine

What is dieting and how is it like famine?

Medical research tells us that the body does not think it is famine until after 72 hours of not eating.  Most diets last longer than 72 hours and the body does not get enough nutrients - this is the goal of dieting.

We also know that to lose a pound, you have to take in 3,600 fewer calories than you burn. Do the math with me! If you need 2,000 calories a day or 14,000 for the week and you only get 6,800 calories this week, you will lose 2 pounds in 7 days.

So does the idea of starving a little each day win over your mind and heart? Heck, no. But what if you can eat the foods you love and not be a “piggy” on some days of the week and not eat on other days – just drink juices? Does that interest you? Think of the money you will save. Think of the time you will gain from not preparing meals. Think of how slim you can get with this quick healthy weight loss routine.

Fasting has been a part of many religions for thousands of years.  It is known to cleanse the body and clear up the mind.  It is an eating practice not a weight loss program.  It is almost spiritual in nature because of the clarity of the mind gained when toxins leave the body.

My Non-Meal Plan

I call fasting non-meals. For example, it is time for my non-breakfast. And I really sit down and have a non-breakfast.

The idea for me was to find a place and time to have my “non-meal” on the days I practiced the special healthy weight loss plan. I know this does not make sense, but bear with me. I created a special table setting for the non-meal that included the beverage, a good book, and a journal. I actually found time to read so many books (never magazines – too many food pictures and articles).

I did not journalize the best weight loss plan I have ever been on; I journalized what I was learning, seeing, and experiencing while I read novel after novel. So why did I not journalize my weight loss? Because it was boring most of the time. I did start each day by standing on the bathroom scales, but I did not do much else in the way of following my meal planning. It was like a faucet - dotay it is on and tomorrow it is off. I did make sure I had all the juices, water and tea handy for my non-meals.

There were a few other preparations I made on a weekly basis, but those are in the Eat-Stop-Eat manual.
