Natural Remedies for Healing Burns
Traditional natural remedies have always stated that Aloe Vera is wonderful for applying to burnt skin as it has wonderful soothing and healing properties and whilst this is true, for those people who do not have an Aloe Vera plant or gel at home, there are other alternatives.
Many natural treatments and remedies for all sorts of ailments and conditions can be found at home if we did but know how to source them. Burns obviously require immediate treatment to prevent the condition from getting worse and to also ease the pain and discomfort.
Honey is one such remedy that can usually be found in the food cupboard and it appears after various studies that burned skin actually responds better to a honey treatment, it has natural anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and although it is not clear exactly how the honey treatment works so effectively, it does appear to fight off infection and helps to remove the burned dead tissue.
If experiencing a burn, run cold water from the tap over the burn for a few minutes, avoid applying ice cold water or ice packs as this can actually do more harm than good. Once you have soothed the pain with cold water, add some honey to a piece of gauze and apply it directly to the burned skin. Change the dressings on average twice a day.
Whilst honey is an effective way to help treat a burn, there are other natural burn remedies and these are also easy to apply:
Lavender oil
Lavender oil is renowned for its healing properties and works well on mild burns. Just apply direct to the skin.
Raw Potato
Take the flesh of a potato and place over the burned skin. Leave for ten minutes until the potato is drying and then remove. This remedy will help to ease the pain and redness.
Aloe Vera
As previously mentioned, Aloe Vera is a wonderful natural home first aid remedy; it is worth keeping the gel or the plant at home as it is useful for burns and a variety of skin conditions.
Meditation
Although meditation is renowned for relaxation, it can also be used to promote inner healing. The techniques are fairly simple to learn but the benefits are incredible. Simply visualise a blue (or any colour of choice) light which will surround the part of the body that requires healing, imagine the light triggering off a response in the body that promotes the healing abilities naturally.
Use meditation alongside other natural remedies for maximum benefits.
