Often one of the primary goals that people want to know about when it comes to their fitness programs is how to get ripped abs.  Whether we want to admit it or not, six pack abs really are the 'gold standard' in terms of what's identified as being in shape.

When you see someone with ripped abs, automatically they earn just a little respect from you (or possibly a great deal, depending on who you are).  Most people are not genetically blessed with six pack abs, therefore when you can achieve them, it shows you're willing to work hard to arrive at your end goal.

Here are some of the main tips you should know about how to get ripped abs.

Focus On Diet First

The first thing you must do is make sure you aren't overlooking the diet side of the equation. Many people unfortunately make this mistake and it costs them a lot in the long run.

In order to get ripped abs, you must get down to a much lower body fat level than you've been in the past, and when it comes to low body fat levels, diet is what accomplishes that - not exercise.

If you think you can just 'wing' your diet, you might want to think again. You can't.

Do Intense, But Short Workouts

Second, be sure you're making your workouts intense, but keep them on the shorter side. Some individuals start dragging their workouts on, thinking it'll help them burn more calories.

The truth of the matter is that this will not help you burn calories, but will it will do is burn you out and could cause injury.

Intense workouts are much more effective and will keep your metabolic rate higher in the long run.

Take A Break

Finally, the third thing you should do if you want to get ripped abs is take a break every once in a while.  If you stay iwth a diet for an extended period of time, there's a much higher chance that the metabolic rate will slow down, and fat loss will come to a halt.

To prevent this, every 5-8 weeks on a diet, take one week off to 'reset your metabolism'.  Eat a calorie intake closer to your maintenance and be sure you're eating at least 150 grams of carbs a day.

That will help keep you from seeing a plateau and instead, keep you seeing results.

So bare these tips in mind as you learn how to get ripped abs.  Armed with the proper training and diet program, you can obtain this goal - if you're willing to work hard.
