Quick Ways To Make Extra Money

Bills Never Stop

Here it is, January, and for many of us the bills seem to just keep coming. Maybe you overspent at Christmas, or it is just that the utility bills are higher but this is the time of year that a little extra money is a very good thing!

Sometimes, no matter how frugal you are you need a quick influx of cash to carry you through a hard time.

Ideas For Quick Income

1. Pawn Your Stuff-Do you really need that gold bracelet? Gold prices are at an all time high, it is a very good time to pawn that gold jewelry you don't really need.

2. eBay- While it is, in most parts of the country, still too chilly for a good turn out at a garage sale consider getting rid of the stuf you don;t need on eBay. Youw ill clean out those closets and drawers and make a little money at the same time.

3. Clean a house- lots of people need someone to come in and clean their house, and really it is a simple task most of the time. Be sure and check it out before you commit to a price, and be sure that your price is competitive with others in your area. In my area you can easily make 300 or more a week cleaning houses a few hours a day.

4. Yard work- if you have a tiller and some simple yard tools you can trim bushes and branches or till up someone's garden.

5.Organize for someone- If you are a good organizer people will pay for you to organize their home, or a room.

6. Personal chef- Can you cook? A personal chef grocery shops for people and then cooks several meals in their home, freezing them for the customer to thaw and heat at some later time.

7. Walk Dogs- depending on where you live people hire people to walk their dogs for up to $10 an hour. You can also pet sit when people go out of town.

8. Teach something- do you know how to knit, spin, play piano? Consider tutoring someone else in this ability.

9. Paint someone's house- paint a room for someone, or if you know how to do faux finishes there is quite a demand for faux finishing and stenciling.

10. Sell your old books and dvd's on half.com

11.Dumpster Dive- seriously, I have had some cool finds. One man's trash is another's treasure! I once found vintage magazines that sold for 100.00 on eBay. Check the laws in your community, although it is legal in most areas.

12. If you have a blog do a few Pay For Post advertisements. Youc an make 100.00 a month pretty easily reviewing things on your blogs.

13. Run errands for people- everyone is busy. Advertise yourself as an erand person...take people's cars to have the oil changed, grocery shop, take their dog to the groomers.

14.Sell baked goods, birthday cakes and such. Check local health laws.

15. Chop firewood for people

16. Better yet, advertise to haul away trees that have fallen for a nominal fee, and chopp them up and sell the fire wood.

Make Money With Scrap Metal

Blogging

Blogging and writing online is a great way to make extra income, especially over a period of time.

By joining Hubpages and writing good, informative, and original material you can make enough extra money to pay for a vacation or something special..or just use it to pay off bills. Use Your Imagination

Stay positive and use your imagination. There are lots of things that you can do to earn a little extra cash! Make a list of the things you enjoy doing, are hobbies, or that you have done in the past and then see which of those might translate into a money making opportunity. Don't just choose one though, do several things, remember the old adage, Don't put all your eggs in one basket! You might be surprised at how much money you can actualy bring in.

Good helpful hub, Although like you said beware of health laws they vary in different countries with home cooked goodies. Also with the trees, You need to check the bylaws of your state with firewood too. some trees could be poisonous and must not be burnt.

The scrap metal video reminded me of my grandfather. He used to do that and make out pretty well. I remember as a kid he'd ask me to ride with him to the scap center.

He use to take old batteries too! I remember he would burn the plastic off from the wire and take that as well.

Be a little bit cautious of payperpost - I use them and make about $20-$30 / month -as my blog doesnt have much traffic. However you will not get any PageRank or loose the PR you have as google considers that you are being paid to provide a link - which they don't like. However on a personal blog PR doesnt matter very much

Marye Audet profile image

Very true, Lissie...I used one of my blogs I didn't use much and made about 50-100 a month. I no longer do the PPP because I am making more with Google now.

Out of all those blogging is the most sensible one.

Marye Audet profile image

Marye Audet  says:

Archbob,

I totally disagree. Most people consider income in large chunks the only way to make a living, however it is as easy or easier to make small amounts here and there that add up. Blogging is very lucrative..over TIME. It takes time to get established, to develop relationship with readers, to begin to see real income. WHile dumpster diving or yard work may not bring in huge amounts it will bring in steady enugh small amounts to add up.

If you want some extra money you can do a newspaper route over night. You can make from 400-800 dollars per week.

I disagree. I know many people that have tried that and the get little sleep and dont make much money. If you are making that much you arean unusual case.

Rudy  says:

Our local newspaper route surpervisors make the $800 a week for 45 hours work in the middle of the night.

Dumpsters - some are good. Unfortunately, our supermarkets, bakeries and coffee houses put locks on their dumpsters. They'd rather waste the food than give it away, even to the homeless. I'm talking a couple tons per night in this city.

ajcor profile image

ajcor  says:

re. ebay you need to be aware that they hav put their fees up so although the ptoential for quick money is still there the amount you make may not be quite so good.

hmmm... :) great ideas, especially now that i am searching for extra income to get my bills paid... :) i think i wanna try half.com/ebay... lol, i've got to rummage through the house to get some good stuff to sell! :)

and by the way, i'd like to share my own sideline... :) if you know how to use some layouting/photo editing/video editing software, you could use that for extra cash. i am in my senior year in college right now and i make extra money from fellow students who want their newsletters, presentations, etc. get a creative spin. video editing is a hit among film majors as well. :) just make sure that your software's not the pirated one, lol :)

That is super advice about not putting all your eggs in one basket. There's another great benefit to doing a number of things as opposed to only one...you broaden your skills, talents, and vision, so that when a really exciting opportunity comes your way, you recognize it not only for what it is, but for what it can be. I learned this the hard way when my only basket fell and all the eggs broke. :)

In my area we do a lot of bartering. Helping each other out this way. Everyone has a special talent. Although no money is made, no money is put out either and things are done. Just an idea to add.

Thanks!

This hub is money(no pun intended) as I've done everything you've listed. Dumpster diving is good for also collecting cans, plastic, and bottles. I think a pound of illuminum is going for 1.50 here in CA the last time I checked. I've seen people earn at least 50 to 100 dollars with loads of cans, bottles and plastic. ugh in my experience dumpsters at apartment buildings (the ones that won't hassle you or threaten to call the police for pilfering) are gold mines; I've seen people throw away good couches, lamps, clothing, shoes, pillows, etc when they move out.

Unfortunately our 'dumpsters' in the UK (the Tips) are no longer accessable to the public (EU health and safety I'm afraid). Yes, you used to get lots of great stuff there and the men that work the sites are quick to step in and releive you of stuff if it looks like ti might be worth something. Otherwise you've given me some food for thought - even with two little ones I could still walk dogs.

The people commenting also had some good advice as well. Having been downsized out of a job early in my career I am a big proponent of both diversifying ones skills and ones sources of income. Things change and we have to be ready to change as well.

I have forwarded a link to this Hub to my sister who recently lost her job and is looking for ways to make money both to help while she is looking for new work as well as set herself up so that she is not as financially dependent on a particular employer for income.

I have sold my scrap gold jewelry online and raised some extra cash. This method has proven to give me the most money per ounce and contrary to my first thoughts is very secure, safe, and confidential. I don’t have to go to a pawn shop and simply mail my unused jewelry. I receive my check fast and was able to pay part of my debts. I would recommend everyone who has broken jewelry pieces to use this method. These online refineries pay better than local pawn shops and are very professional. They also buy silver and platinum jewelry at good prices.
