Quick and healthy meals

What you feed your child is very important. Learn how to make quick and healthy meals for your child.

You don't have to be a great chef to make wonderful meals for your kids. All you need is a bit of imagination and a whole lot of good nutrition.

The quick and healthy breakfast

Breakfast, the most important meal of the day. Forget the sugar-laden cereals, give your child a tuna sandwich instead. A yummy, nutritious breakfast for a great start to the day.

What you need:

  • canned tuna flakes in water
  • low fat mayonnaise
  • shredded carrot
  • raisins
  • salt

Mix all the above ingredients. Spread the mixture on toast and you've got a quick, healthy meal for your child.

The quick and healthy lunch

A nutritious lunch doesn't need to be elaborate. Here's how you make chicken macoroni soup; an all-time favourite.

What you need:

  • macaroni
  • chicken breast
  • chicken stock
  • carrots
  • broccoli
  • chopped garlic
  • salt

Boil the macaroni and set aside. Saute the garlic. Add chicken pieces and some chicken stock.

Leave to boil. Add carrots and finally broccoli and some salt. Pour the soup over the macaroni and your quick, healthy lunch is served.

What you need:

  • potatoes
  • dory filet
  • butter
  • lettuce
  • shredded carrots
  • cherry tomatoes
  • salt & pepper
  • olive oil

Boil the potatoes and set aside. Rub salt and pepper into the dory fillet and leave for a few minutes.

Mash the potatoes and add in a dash of salt to taste. Heat up a non-stick pan and grill the dory filet.

You are most welcome debby. Glad to have been of some help.

What I've learnt with my own two kids is not to cut out all 'unhealthy' food completely, but help them make the right choices. Harder said than done I admit, but if you keep at it, you'll see results.

Thanks for pointing out that getting kids to eat right is the most important lesson. I love all you ideas except for the tuna sandwich for breakfast. :-)

Hey Health Consious, Thanks for your comments.

Not a big fan of tuna sandwich for breakfast? What would you recommend to replace that? I'm constantly looking for new ideas, myself. :)

love the lunch recipe fizz :) will try that this very weekend.

another recommendation for a quickie lunch menu i have is this:

what you need:- fish stock (frozen cube)- fishballs- meatballs- tofu- broccoli- carrots- udon

1. cut tofu, broccoli and carrots into bite size pieces.2. dissolve 1 (or more) cube(s) of fish stock into hot water (put in enough hot water to cover fish stock cube)3. put all ingredients into stock and boil for 15 min.4. you've got yourself a quick healthy meal in under 25 min tops :

i typically make stock out of fresh ingredients and quick freeze them for later use. no additives and completely healthy ;)

cheerios!miche
