Quickies with Chocolate
66
Ask women which is their favourite food and most often you will hear chocolate. And don’t try telling me it isn’t a food group. For centuries, chocolate has literally been put on a pedestal and worshipped, not only because it is the food of the Gods but also for some of its other properties. Some would even like to believe it has aphrodisiacal value though there is no concrete research evidence to prove that so far. Chocolate was most likely first used by the Aztecs and then made its way to Europe where it took the continent by storm and then spread to the rest of the world.
Chocolate has two mood enhancing chemicals in its composition- , Phenylethylamine and Seratonin, which also naturally occur in the human brain. Whenever a person is happy or very much in love, the brain releases these chemicals and this creates a sensation of euphoria and well-being….a flush comes to my face and my pulse begins to race…Goodness Gracious Me. Doctors have been known to advise patients who are depressed to consume dark chocolate, to stimulate the same sense of well-being. For some reason, chocolate has more of an effect on the body chemistry of women than of men. One of the most popular ways of showing someone you love them, is by sending them a box of chocolates….or even better, making them something that has chocolate in it.
And so especially for the men, these are some quick, sure-fire recipes which you can turn out in a jiffy. Show your woman the dark, delectable love. Women strapped for time, these are great for kids and for those times when you feel you need a quick mood lift.
Chocolate mousse
175 gms good quality chocolate
2 cups whipping cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Melt chocolate in a double boiler, removing from the heat when the chocolate is nearly finished melting. Keep stirring and the rest of the chocolate will melt. In a large bowl, whip the cream and vanilla with an electric mixer until it is in stiff peaks. Pour the melted chocolate (it should have cooled down somewhat) into the whipped cream and fold to combine. Pour into individual glasses. Chill in refrigerator and serve with a cherry and some whipped cream on top!
Chocolate Cake in a hurry
1/2 cup Self-raising flour
1/2 cup sugar
2 level tbsp cocoa
Pinch of salt
1/4 cup of melted butter
1/2 cup milk
1 big egg
Teaspoon vanilla extract
Put all the above ingredients into a mixing bowl and beat together with
your electric mixer for about 2 minutes. Then pour into a 6 inch prepared cake
tin and bake in the oven at 350 degrees for about half an hour or till a skewer
comes out clean. For additional calories, go in for some chocolate frosting.
5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE
Just could not resist adding this one on, though I only tried it recently. It came to me as a forward and is popularly being termed as the Most Dangerous Cake.
4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
a small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug
Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.
Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes on High. The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed! Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.
EAT! (This can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous). And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world? Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night
So go ahead and enjoy yourself. Have a chocolicious day........

That is a song I was quoting my dear. Made famous by the sexy Gina and the bumbling Peter Sellers. Watch this version- it is quite sweet too

Waiting for the chocolate...
And do try that mug cake. It is good.
Finally, a recipe that I can actually try. I have seen so many cooking recipes hub here on Hubpages, and while many claim to be so simple a 9 year old could do it, none are so simple that the recipe-challenged like me would feel confident trying out.
But I gotta go out and buy the ingredients first, not to mention a microwave. :)
Thanks for that link Di! Where have you gone and resurrected that old fogey from? Had almost forgotten it!! Great song ... :)
The chocos? By return post, after the cakes start coming in!! :p
Chocolate mug cake WoW!!!
Just finishing of a nice bar of chocolate right now, the Captain loves his choc bars ; )
This just proves to me that chocolate is heavenly and will be waiting on my when I get there. I'm sure we're greeted with the lovely concoction...=))) yummmm thanks!!
Diana, that is the most awesome clip...I'd never seen it. I laughed all the way through, watching it twice.
It was almost better for my soul than chocolate, only almost. :)
wandererh, I have seen quite a few awesome and simple recipes on the hubs...but I think you like eating more than cooking, my friend :P
Do try the mousse, it doesnt need a microwave.
Chocolates before the cake...it is one of the ingredients you know Jas.
Chocolate mug cake is yummy Gypsy...and quick..try it out.
I am like you BC...I eat the chocolate before I manage to get the rest of the ingredients together.
mariesue I am sure a lot of people would want to go to heaven if they were sure, chocolate would be part of the deal. Thanks for stopping by.
Glad you enjoyed the clip Sally...I like this one better than the original.
Oooooooh. I'm not greedy...or demanding. No need to go to any trouble. I'll take the chocolate in its raw form. :P
Looks like many of us chocolate fans out here, who are in love at first bite...forget about cooking it.
You are going to say that I'm hopeless and you are probably right. The chocolate mousse recipe requires a double boiler (I don't even know what that is) and a electric mixer, which I do not own. :( I guess before trying any recipes, I really need to invest in a kitchen first, right?
And you really do understand me. While eating might not be my number 1 pasttime, it definitely ranks way above cooking on the list. :)
No, I do not call anyone useless. I instead offer solutions. Instead of a double boiler, you just put a pan with water on the fire and have another smaller pan which floats in it, with the chocolate.Keep stirring the chocolate, but make sure water does not fall into the chocolate. The idea is to have the heat without it being direct. And you dont need an electric mixer if you have muscles to beat up the eggs with a hand whisk...add a tiny pinch of salt and the job is done faster.
Voila!!! solutions for you.But not a bad idea to invest in a basic kitchen. Who knows you may turn out to be a master chef, surprising yourself. :)
You are so nice! :)
I might actually give it a try, but I gotta see if the local supermarket have the ingredients. Hope I don't throw in the towel and buy a chocolate cake instead. :)
Now, now..that would be cheating.
what ingredients? There are only 3 common ones. Stop shamming.:P
No, I am not. You have 3 ingredients, of which I have exactly none in my kitchen right now. And about the whipping cream, does it come in powder form or in a can? **puzzled**
Really I think just about everyone loves chocolate!
I just made the microwave recipe ! I didn't have cocoa, so instead I made sort of a cinnamon roll version. It's VERY good! I might try adding baking soda or baking powder (whichever one makes stuff fluffy lol) next time. This is a very filling, dense cake. I can't wait to try it with cocoa! I made my version with vanilla, lots of cinnamon and some caramel chips that I had in the cupboard. Not bad!
Great hub - but I'm one of those who really isn't that keen on chocolate, you lot can have mine!
I give up wandererh. :P
Actually Camping Dan...not everyone is so fond of chocolate...look at LondonGirl's comment above mine. But then that is a good thing....more for the rest of us :P
That sounds very delicious LondonGirl. I have been reading various versions of this cake and people try to improve on it. I had added a whole lot of crushed nuts...I think you are right, a bit of baking powder would make it less dense, but then you might need a much bigger mug to bake it in...might overflow.I am going to try a bit of cinnamon next time. Sounds good and so great for the health.
What a great idea for a hub Diana! I got hungry just looking at the pictures. Now I just need to find a man to execute those recipes ;)
Man it looks too delicious - must not look - still on diet ....
"Quickie with Chocolate" LOL~ I love the title of this hub. I’m known to be very destructive around the kitchen, so I’ll give the easiest one a try, the chocolate mousse. If this doesn’t get me a girl, I’m coming back to make a complaint! J/K~
A man to make those recipes...plenty on this hub Aya...lol
Aaah that title was tongue in cheek ajm5050. Do come back and complain...I think you will the recipe very simple.
Hurry up and write something new ya lazy sod ; )
Sure will BC, but just need some inspiration.
Jeeez shes still eating chocolate instead of writing lol !
well, isnt that much better bc ;) ???
Where oh where is my fav girl ?
I tried the chocolate mug cake awhile back, and it is a little tough and chewy. However, if you want a quick chocolate dessert it serves it purposes. Still a fun ideas though!
I have seen online many variations of this recipe which people have tried out to get a spongier version. You could check on one of those.
Wonderful hub and great recipes. Chocolate is food for the gods!

Diana, you make the cakes, puhlease!!! And I promise to get you lots of chocolates. :)
You doubt its aphrodisiacal value and yet you say "….a flush comes to my face and my pulse begins to race…?" I'd have thought that was good enough to start with! :p
