There are many reasons to deal with a bad snoring problem. But if you're losing sleep, or someone in hearing range is losing sleep, sleep loss could be the best reason of all.

The best way to quit snoring is to take a look at some simple solutions we're going to present here. You can always speak with a doctor for further help.

Sleeping

Sleeping on your back can cause you to snore, and it can make the snoring much worse. Sleeping on your side is a possible remedy to this.

There are a number of special pillows available on the market that encourage side-sleeping and discourage back-sleeping. You may want to try one of these to see if it helps you to maintain a sleeping position on your side. If your snoring abates, you may have a reason for you snoring. And a cure.

Try placing a tennis ball in a sock and pinning it to the back of your pajama pants. The ball will force you to sleep on your side. Also try sleeping with your back against a large pillow that will prohibit you from rolling onto your back.

Watch What You Eat

Alcohol can make a snoring problem worse. The relaxant effect it has on muscles and fatty throat tissues can restrict the breathing airways. The breath attempting to pass through these restricted airways can create the noise of snoring. Avoiding alcohol in the evening is one key way to cut down on the noise of snoring.

The mucous membranes that line the airways can become very readily inflamed once again restricting the passage of air and causing the characteristic noise of snoring. Mucous membranes can become inflamed through contact with allergens. Known allergens in food are nuts, dairy products and wheat - it may even be that you have a sensitivity to something else. By cutting out suspect foods and tracing any allergies you can improve and reduce your snoring levels.

Your Weight

When excess weight is carried, particularly around the neck and throat, airways become obstructed and snoring occurs. Overweight people can sometimes have fatty tissues in their neck and throat. These tissues put pressure on airways, causing restricted passages that hamper air flow. Restricted air flow can be a contributing factor to a snoring problem. Keeping in shape is a great way to combat problem snoring.

These are some common areas to look at to possibly help you to quit snoring. If these solutions do not solve the problem, further action may be required. You may have to get medical help (maybe even surgery) to treat your snoring problem. Check with your family doctor to investigate other remedies.
