RAMYA KRISHNAN who was born on 15th.Sept.1967 in Chennai happens to be the niece of CHO RAMASWAMY an activist actor and a fire brand politician. She began her career as an actress at the younf age of 13 and has been at the very top for a good part of her career that has spanned across two decades. Her first lead role came when she was still studying in 8th.standard and she was paired opposite Y.G. Mahendran in the Tamil film 'Vellai Manasu'.

In the 20 plus years that RAMYA has been a top ranking actress she has over 200 films to her credit. Even though her very first film in Telegu was 'Bhalee Muthrulu' ,it was 'Sutradharulu' with the grandmaster K.VISHWANATH that got her ample accolades and showcased her immense beauty and talent in perfect measure. If it was K.VISHWANATH who orbited her into the slot of a powerful actress then full credit goes to K.RAGAVENDRA RAO under whom she rose to be a true star who could carry a film on her shoulders like any major srar of her time.

She has the rare distinction of having worked with two generations of actors such was the staying power of RAMYA KRISHNAN she was paired convincingly opposite yester superstars like AKKENENI NAGESHWAR RAO, N.T.RAMARAO, KRISHNA & SOBHAN BABU one one hand as well as the next generation superstars like CHIRANJEEVI, BALAKRISHNA, VENKATESH, JAGAPATHI BABU & AKKENENI NAGARJUNA and was gladly accepted.Such was the power of her talent and sheer good looks.

RAMYA KRISHNAN was first introduced to Bollywood when he gave her just one dance number in his 'Dayavan' but even that small cameo got her amply noticed by YASH CHOPRA no less who signed her opposite VINOD KHANNA in his multi-starrer'PARAMPARA'. Since then there was no holding her back as she went from one strength to another in mega hits like MAHESH BHATT's 'CRIMINAL' , N.CHANDRA's Wajood soon after which followed 'Bade Miya Chote Miya with Amitabh Bachchan & GOVINDA with whom she did another film 'Benarsi Babu' Another major film she did for the Bhatt camp was 'Chahat' with NASEERUDIN SHAH & SHAHRUKH KHAN. She was also seen in SUBHASH GHAI's block-buster KHALNAYAK.

Her luck and talent has made her a hot favorite in Kannad as well as Malyalam films not to forget her home base Tamil films where she is a larger than life star. Unlike other actresses who panic once they turn 40 and seek desperate measures to survive. But  RAMYA KRISHNAN was not one of them as she had started seeking options at the peak of her career itself. No matter how successful a film was she refused to get carried away and shift her base.Even when her Telegu films were raging hits she refused to move to Hyderabad on a permanent basis and stayed in Chennai while travelling wherever her films took her.Then during the Mumbai phase while she was always available on short notice yet she refused to shift to Mumbai.

It was only when RAMYA KRISHNAN was ready for marriage and wanted to settle down with ace director KRISHNA VAMSI did she shift bag and baggage after trying the knot with him on 03rd.June 2003 and with the birth of her son RITWIK on 13th.Feb.2005 she cut down on acting as she launched her own production house and is now active in generating television software.

That however does not mean she is keeping a low profile.
