Jesus Agrees
Back when Jesus was roaming the lands, St. Timothy, a disciple of St. Paul suffered from chronic stomach complaints. St. Paul gave instruction to St. Timothy on how to treat his stomach with “...a little wine,”.
Two thousand years later and there have been numerous reports of the French and Italians, notorious wine drinking nations, having lower levels of cholesterol and have fewer instances of heart disease than others countries such as America, England and Australia. Having lower levels of cholesterol despite a diet rich in cream, butter, and cheese is worth examination, and it seems evident that their daily dose of red wine is the culprit.
Science Says So
More health benefits still are attributed to the Fruit of the grape. More specifically the skin of the grape as it contains concentrated amounts of resveratol, a form of the hormone oestrogen.
In laboratory tests resveratol has presented itself as an antioxidant and an anticoagulant. Further health benefits are present in resveratols effect on prostate cancer, as it destroys the cancer cells while leaving healthy cells unharmed.
Research out of Spain has shown that smalls amounts of ultraviolet light, such as that in sunlight, more than triples the amount of resveratol to 3 milligrams in the grape skin if exposed before the wine making process begins.
Most white wines however, have very little of the wonder ingrediant as the grapes have there skins removed in the wine making process. Though some winemakers are starting to produce white wines with higher levels of resveratol.
Smart Wine
Not only is wine good for the body, it is also good for the brain, especially those in the creative professions. In a study consisting of a sample pool of over six thousand government employees, the University of London ran a series of tests. The tests ranges from measured memory, general intelligence, mathematical and verbal skills. Those not drinking red wine scored much lower, than the higher scoring half a bottle a day drinking folk.
Researchers found that the alcohol fired up the brain and promoted creativity and imaginative thought.
So drink. And just imagine if a glass or two is good for you, a bottle or two must be even better!
