REENA ROY was born on January 7, 1957 as SAIRA KHAN even though she claimed that her real name was Roopa. it is also believed that the Roy sisters Reena & Barkha actually hail from Meerut where both were actually cabaret dancers till ROOPA got noticed by B.R.ISHARA and he had cast her opposite DANNY in his Nayi Duniya Naye Log but the film got shelved and that was how she was launched in Zaroorat oppostie VIJAY ARORA & her maiden co-star DANNY and he rechristned her as REENA from ROOPA.

It is strongly believed that while actually ROOPA was elder to BARKHA yet when she got her break in films she was still so innocent and naive that her mother felt it would be wise to project BARKHA ROY as the elder sister and REENA ROY as her younger child so that BARKHA could manage and control REENA didi's career.But none of this could be substantiated so it remains a strong Bollywood myth like her family background.

REENA ROY was active in BOLLYWOOD from 1972 to 1985 which is considered to be the golden era of REENA ROY during which period she gave an unlimited number of golden and even diamond and platinum jubilee hits making her amongst the top three heroine in Bollywood along with HEMA MALINI & REKHA and ZEENAT breathing down her neck.

Even though Zaroorat was a runaway hit and she was noticed for her bold performance yet she got stuck in the B-grade bracket even though she had her hands full and even overflowing with films and more offers seeking her consent. It actually took her almost four long years to successfully shift gears and get out of the B-grade bracket and into the top league. That process began with the release of SUBHASH GHAI's KALICHARAN.The film was a runaway diamond jubilee hit and it began the era of the SHATRU-REENA jodi that was not restricted to the screen alone as the passion overflowed into their personal lives too.

Infact if we take just one look at REENA ROY's career graph we will immediztely notice that she was a lucky mascot for most of her heroes.Not just SHATRUGHAN SINHA with whom she gave maximum hits but most of her other heroes be it JEETU, DHARAM, RAJESH KHANNA, VINOD KHANNA or even SUNIL DUTT & AMITABH BACHCHAN she has given maximum hits not to forget all those newcomers whom she transformed into stars be they RAJ BABBAR, VIJAY ARORA,DANNY,KIRAN KUMAR ,RAKESH ROSHAN or KAMALHASSAN all added hits to their career when they were paired opposite REENA ROY!!!

REENA ROY's success chart can be gauged from the very fact that in 1982 she actually had 13 films of her released which was far more than any heroine could claim that made her a real threat for the Dreamgirl-HEMA MALINI while she elbowed REKHA to the third slot in the top three race. REENA's career is studded with so many pearls and diamonds in her professional necklace that she has carved a permanent niche for herself in Bollywood history. Rarely is their any role that she flionched to take up and do justice to which made her an effortless leading lady with who any hero or director was honored to work.

If at the start of her career she was madly and passionately in love with SHATRU and together their romance created box-office chemistry then at the same time her being rejected by her "SONU" for his first love KOMAL (later she became his wife POONAM)broke something within her and the pain and agony polished her performances making her a sensitive actress.If u'ce seen her in Aasha,Apnapan or Badaltey Rishtey you'll understand what I mean.

However at the peak of her career when she could have still remained at the top for several years she married MOHSIN KHAN both seemed to be using one another for personal gains so it was like a marriage of arrangment that was bound to fail. While REENA was impressed by MOHSIN's image of an international cricketer and wanted someone of her stature for her husband she wanted to get away from Mumbai and live abroad be it Pakistan or London.

On the other hand little was she aware that after his cricketing career came to an end in Pakistan he nutured dreams of an acting career and felt that REENA as his wife could and would do wonders for his career what with her personal fame and Bollywood connections. Thus while REENA ROY wanted to settle abroad away from Mumbai her husband also wanted to settle abroad-infact he wanted to settle in Mumbai in her flat.

After a brief span beyond her honeymoon she spent some time in Pakistan and London with MOHSIN and eventually she returned to Mumbai to take care of her daughter JANNAT while hubby started to use her connections to get a foothold im films.

Eventually the marriage crumbled and worse REENA ROY returned back heart broken as she lost the custody of her only daughter. That was when she dis try to make a come-back of sorts with 'Aadmi Khilona Hai but the magic no longer drew in the crowds.Eventually she even made a few home production films for sister BARKHA ROY and last she was seen in a t.v soap for her home banner called EENA MEENA DEEKA a laugh riot that had over the hill stars ASHA SACHDEV & ANITA RAAJ along with REENA herself in it.

Smitten by the harsh realities, Reena again made an attempt at resurrection. The strong currents of time had left her psyche battered and bruised. Her every venture to evoke the charisma of yesteryears met with failure. Later she consciously went away from the spotlight. It was like seeking a voluntary retirement from a profession, where sometimes you walk, with work in your hands to your grave.

Last heard REENA ROY along with her ambitious sister BARKHA were seriously contemplating opening an Acting Academy in the heart of Mumbai this was REENA's way of giving back to the industry that had given her an overflow of name fame and unlimited money at the peak of her career when she was just a sneeze away from the top slot!!!

But I plan to just be myself and politics take care of itself in my life!!!

I don’t know why, but I’m suddenly beginning to resent work these days. I think I am tired. Half my time goes in travelling to the studios and the other half in waiting endlessly for my shot. I’m fed up of costumes, wigs, make-up. I think I need to settle down. I wish some Prince Charming would come galloping my way. The days he does, I will get married and go away like Mumtaz. Never to return to the arc lights!!!"
