REMEMBER DOCTOR VICTOR CHANG

Victor Peter Chang was born on 21st November 1936 and grew up in Hong Kong. He moved to Australia and started his medical career at the University of Sydney ending up a Cardiothoracic Surgeon for St. Vincent’s hospital in Sydney. Doctor Chang not only operated on the first heart transplant but he and his team worked together to bring about a new type of medicine that would pave the way for today’s great surgical feats that were to be undertaken after his death. Among the first to be operated on was a young girl of just 14 whose heart was in need of a transplant, Fiona Coote (pictured below).

In 1986, Doctor Chang was awarded the Companion of the Order of Australia for his service of relations between Australia and China.

He worked with surgeons Doctor Mark Shanahan and Doctor Harry Windsor at St. Vincent’s hospital and as a team were responsible for a lot of saved lives that would not have survived if it hadn’t been for their dedicated efforts.

Doctor Chang made significant advances in the area of the artificial heart and great changes in this area were brought about by his team effort in establishing the first transplant operation.

His love for his family and medicine gave him unlimited energy and he was known to work around the clock and help out when he was needed.

What happened to Doctor Chang to change all of this was,  he was pulled over to the side of the road in Mosman, by two crazed gun men who tried to extort money from him. When he refused they shot this Australian hero DEAD!!

It was the 4th of July 1991 when Victor Chang was shot down in cold blood and left to die on the side of the road and it will be a day that all Australians should remember especially me, because his dedication brought around the main bypass operation that I had in Westmead, open heart surgery. I owe my life to these men and women, their dedicated team of surgeons, nurses and aids that treated me until I once more walked again with confidence.

The two idiots that murdered Doctor Chang and tried to pull off this useless extortion were Chiew Seng Liew and Phillip Lim Choon Tee from Malaysia.

Chiew fired the two fateful shots and was sentenced to 20 years with a maximum of 26 years. Phillip Lim, who pleaded not guilty because he did not know that Chiew had a gun, received 18 years and a maximum of 24 years for his part in the murder.

THE PRESENT 27.10.2009

Phillip Lim was awarded a parole for being the model prisoner today and I don’t care if he was the best prisoner in the world, he should NOT be allowed out. Admittedly, he will be sent back to Malaysia a free man,  and he will go through plenty of hardships we hope but it does not bring back the life of a great doctor who he shot dead . Please let your view be heard by voting on the poll below so we can have a public inquest that will change this terrible decision forever

On the 27.10.2009,Phillip Lim Choon Tee's parole was knocked back due to public outcry and channel seven's poll to the general public asking their opinion. Maybe we should do this to all prisoners that commit acts of murder and violence regards brownlickie
