These days something interesting is happening the the home vauum cleaning area, probably the most exciting development since James Dyson invented the bagless, mini cyclone vacuum cleaner.

I am taking about robot vacuum cleaners!! yes, the future has arrived and now we dont have to do the vacuuming anymore! We can get the robot cleaners to do it for us. Alot of you might have heard of the ROOMBA, this company has produced various roomba robot vacuum cleaner models. They are cheap to buy between $150-$200. They have produced more advanced modesl also.

So what is the technology like behind these robot vacuum cleaners?

Well Samsung, Swedish compapany Electrolux and also DYSON have all produced robot vacuum cleaners. The Dyson DC06 costs over $5,000. The Electrolux Trilibite 2.0 is also very expensive. These robot vacuum cleaners draw a 3D map of your room, the electrolux trilibite 2.0 uses a sonar/rader type system to map put your room, they also have memory and know which areas they have cleaned and what areas are left to clean. Also they havse sensors which allow them to avoid bumbing into objects. The Dyson DC06 even lets you know how it feels, it has 3 buttons which flash depending on how it feels. Green means it ok, red means its abit vexed, possibly because of a cat in the way? who knows what upsets a robot vacuum cleaner.

The roomba is made by a toy company with technology that costs about $1, jeez someone some where is getting seriously rich! its basically a dumb robot vacuum cleaner. It just keeps moving around until it has cleaned every part of your room, it will cover some areas several times, misses some areas, its limited by its 4hr battery life. In contrast DYSON,ELTROLUX produce robot vacuum cleaners which use sonar/rader, have seriously high tech processors inside which create 3D maps of you room, they have memory, know when to recharge themselves and even let you know how they feel.. So are they worth it? well I like the technology behind the Dyson DC06 etc. But if it still gets stuck on the edge of the rug then all that technology does`nt count for much..
