Why choose RSPCA pet insurance?

RSPCA pet insurance is provided for two reasons: one is because it helps the RSPCA to ensure that owners provide their pets with appropriate veterinary treatment, the other is that it actually helps the RSPCA to raise some funds.

Features of RSPCA pet insurance

The RSPCA is very keen to promote responsible ownership of pets, hence why it has introduced RSPCA pet insurance.  It seeks to ensure that pets can gain access to treatment and that if your pet is lost or stolen, then the RSPCA will help you to find it again, providing either £250 if you have a Silver plan, or £750 if you have the top notch Gold plan.

The plans even cover the cost of boarding your cat or dog in a cattery/kennels, if you become ill and have to go into hospital for treatment.

If your pet needs treatment, then the RSPCA will pay vet’s bills up to £6500 if you have the Gold plan or £3000 if you have the Silver plan.

Ethical reasons to choose RSPCA pet insurance

The RSPCA does a lot of work that people are unaware of preventing cruelty or trying to promote responsible pet ownership.  The RSPCA is heavily reliant on donations and people leaving them legacies in order to survive, so diversifying into the RSPCA pet insurance policy market means that around 20% of your premium actually goes directly to help other animals.  This can be a really important feature for some people and helps influence their decision.

Drawbacks to RSPCA pet insurance

The fact that the RSPCA is a charitable organisation, that is reliant on donations etc means that they can ill afford to pay out money unless they have to, although they would never deny an animal veterinary treatment, it just means that you have to be aware that they are not an organisation that is very rich.

Being a charity they are also unable to be as competitive as other organisations that offer pet insurance.  This means that they can be slightly more expensive, although the package that they offer is good and if you live alone and are elderly, then you can rest assured that your pet will not be left alone at home when you are in hospital, the RSPCA will take care of it for you.  For some people this is very important and they are willing to pay slightly more for this level of cover, since they do not have anyone else to help look after their pet if they have to go into hospital.

So all in all there are some compelling reasons to choose the RSPCA pet insurance policies, but remember that you cannot expect a charitable organisation such as the RSPCA to be as competitive as some of the larger financial organisation that provide pet insurance.

But you do have the feel good factor of knowing that through choosing the RSPCA pet insurance plan, you are helping other animals, which is a good reason in itself for choosing the RSPCA.
