Are We In Good Hands?

"Through the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, but by the mouth of the wicked it is destroyed". Proverbs 11:11 NIV

It seems the lobbyists and interest groups are running rampant through Washington. Under this administration we have had the Energy Crisis, the Insurance and Accounting debacle, the Mortgage Meltdown and, Oh!, don't forget, the Iraq War. All of these were prompted by fraud and deception or, outright negligence.

First, let's get one thing straight, this administration is not the first to trip over it's own two left feet, and more than likely, won't be the last. Yet, there is something unique about this administration; it has fallen and can't get up. With each attempt to right itself it sinks deeper in it's own mess.

Soon after the September 11 tragedy the cycle of serial meltdowns began.

Is this country suffering from the consequences of standing idly by and allowing such a controversial election, of 2000, to stand? or maybe not. Nevertheless, from that time we've been in a consistent meltdown phase.

(1) The Intelligence Report, that all but assured us that there were weapons of mass destruction, that involved even reluctant cabinet officials of this administration, some have since resigned, to bristle with shame and embarrassement.

(2) The declaration of war on a soveriegn nation without sufficient and reliable intelligence, or the support of respectable and reliable world leaders.

(3) The passage of new laws, policies and, amendments like the Patriot Act, domestic wiretapping, waterboarding (torture) and, secret prisons setup in Europe and other parts of the world. Just to name a few.

Let's not forget our obligations at home. We would obviously do a much better job of helping and protecting our own people on our own turf, Right? Hurricane Katrina and Rita; need I say more. We dropped the ball, and lost it. If our system is set up to wean out the brightest and best to lead this great nation, the United States of America, through the twenty-first (21st) century, then we have got to fix the fractures within the system. I think we can all agree that the system is not working the way it was intended. We need to take a good hard look at those areas, domestic and foreign, that are not delivering their expected fruit. Like that fig tree that Jesus cursed two (2) centuries ago, or even that alleged apple tree that George Washington chopped down, we need to take a good look at our national tree of life and decide whether we curse it, chop it down or, nurse it back to health.

I believe we can nurse it back to health, if we choose our leaders more carefully.

What do you think?
