Where to buy your used RV

New:

Brand new RVs are great especially as with each season there are newer models each bigger and better than last years with more and more accessories and comforts included. The main and obvious drawback is they are extremely expensive to buy brand new.

Used RV Dealership:

An RV dealer for a used model is an obvious choice, you have the security of the reputation of the dealer and maybe even a guarantee. The models on offer will all seem shiny and new but attention must be paid to the fact that they have all been given a good cleanup in order to sell them fast. Remember they are not new and will have wear and tare even though this may have been hidden from obvious view.

Private Sale:

A private sale can work out far more cheaper than going through a dealer but care and due diligence should be taken. I highly recommend you read the RV Buyers Guide if you are considering buying privately. Private offers can be found over the Internet at specialized sites and ebay. They can also be found in the press especially the special RV magazines.

Auction:

This is where you can get the absolute best deals. There are 'seized vehicle' auctions where you can bid on RVs that are virtually brand new and have very little use. The starting prices are often ridiculously low and depending upon who else is bidding you can more often than not get a virtually NEW model complete with high quality accessories for a fraction of what it is worth.

There are a couple of websites that offer access to this type of auction.

The Seized Vehicle Auctions site even have a special section dedicated solely to RVs.

The other site I recommend is Auction Pass where you can bid on seized vehicles from $100.

No matter where you are buying you RV its a good idea to get an idea of the correct price by consulting with the blue book and NADA values. You should only use these prices however as a starting point as there are so many factors to take into account when pricing such as condition of the equipment, extra accessories installed, age and condition and the list goes on forever. Once you have your blue book starting price you should check out other similar models on the market and use that as your guide. The true prices in the end are the ones that people are actually paying not always what is.
