Whether you are looking to start a racing career or just spend a couple days driving like you never have before, probably the best way to go is by finding a good high performance driving school. Different schools specialize in different things. Some are geared towards starting you on that racing career and others are mostly recreational exercises.

If racing is your goal then there are some excellent schools available. They typically use a formula style racing car and have god instructor staffs. They usually start out with the most basic of instruction, this is how you shift gears, this is how you fasten a racing seat belt, not necessarily in that order. These are very comprehensive and usually allow you to progress to where you can race using their cars in their series. This is an excellent path if you have the funding, and all things considered, it's not the most expensive way to go. If you figure how much you can spend to buy a car and support equipment, spares, truck and trailer, travel expenses, crew help, fuel, tires, the list can go on for quite some time here, and compare it to the cost of an arrive and drive series, it's not hard to see where it can actually save you money in the short run. It's also a good way to find out if this racing thing is for you.

If your goal is a bit less lofty then you can find multiple options in a less race-centric environment. These range from you showing up with your street car at a race track and someone gives you direction before sending you on your way. "Good Luck!" To schools where you can sign up for multiple days in a high performance car like a Corvette with a qualified instructor next to you giving you immediate feedback. The latter school really is the best in terms of actual learning, there is no substitute for the immediate feedback offered by an experienced race driver.

There are also private driving instructors who will, for a fee, though usually not enough, get into a car with you as you drive around a race track and give you one-on-one instruction. This differs from the above schools in tat you supply the car and pay for the track time. This can be in a street or race car and in the case of single seat race cars, the instructor will usually do some laps in your car, establishing a baseline and getting some data on the table so he can compare your driving to his. These can be very rewarding and beneficial but they are usually reserved for more experienced students.

Just take a good accounting of what you are looking for and try and search in that direction. A little poking around on the web should head you in the right direction. Don't let the large number of choices of high performance driving schools confuse you, just focus and go for it!
