Racial Affinity
54It would be such a folly to say that gender and race do not play a role in the upcoming democratic nomination for the American Presidency. The Blacks are rallying for Barak Obama and the women are trying to convince themselves that they should back up Clinton. Of course, some swing votes got to swing towards the other side: Women and Whites voting for Obama; Men and Blacks voting for Clinton.
But Obama has been keeping the lead and it is not because the Whites and Women are not voting for Clinton, but because the Whites and Women are voting for Obama.
And then, there is the Black vote.
It would seem to be coincident that the term "Black vote" sound like "Block vote." But it is what that has been happening. The Blacks are voting en masse for Obama. What are they voting him for anyway? He lacked experience and he did not do much in the Senate. He has all the reasons from which people should shy away. But they are voting for him anyway. And they are voting for him with unprecedented enthusiasm. They are paving his way to the White House.
Finally, a black President in the White House.
It is not, of course, difficult to figure out why this political configuration turned up. For centuries, the Blacks had endured so much and had been deprived so much. In the midst of deprivation, all one can do is make a wish and cry out to the heavens for miracles. And either in conscious or unconscious level, Obama in the White House is a black man's wish-fulfillment. He shall be their black soul in a white house. He shall be them. And they shall be him.
For the faithful, Obama is a miracle. And when it comes to faith, there is simply no arguing with that.
