With today's openness to various types of engagement rings, one increasingly popular choice is the radiant cut engagement rings. It is however, not a new style. The radiant cut originated more than 20 years ago, and is much more brilliant than a more standard emerald cut.

One thing to be aware of when looking at radiant cut engagement rings is that a rectangular cut can sometimes have a "bowtie". A bowtie is a dark shadowed area in the shape of a bowtie that occurs when the radiant cut's angles are less than perfect. This can detract from the beauty of the ring and its brilliance, so it's important to look for a stone whose facets are properly aligned.

Radiant cut diamonds are often used for fancy-color diamonds, because their shape and facet alignment promotes color intensity. If you are interested in a flamboyant engagement ring to show off, then a fancy-color radiant cut engagement ring could be an option to think about.

Radian cut diamonds are also commonly used as the center stone in a three stone design. They are not only classically beautiful, but also highly decorative and suitable for those who thrive off of a little bit of extra attention.
