Maj Gen Harkirat Singh has made a startling statement with vivid details in his just released book Intervention In Sri Lanka( Manohar Publishers Rs 545).

Going by his book it becomes clear that Rajiv Gandhi played a fraud on LTTE leader Prabhakaran.

During the meeting between the two Rajiv Gandhi had assured to help Prabhakaran in forming a separate Tamil Eelam and its administration. But one meeting with Jayawardhane he has changed his stance.

The peace keeping force had been sent with the sole objective to wipe out LTTE... which the IPKF soldiers too did not know in the first instance. The friendly stance with LTTE by the IPKF was to change gradually to enemy stance, this was the order that had come from the Prime Minister cum Defence Minister Late Rajiv Gandhi.

These things clearly brings out the character of Late Rajiv Gandhi who had played bad politics and had become enemy No.1 to tamilians of Sri Lanka as a whole. No doubt by these acts he has also become the enemy to the Tamilians living in Tamilnadu too, but the only thing is that the people of Tamilnadu did not know these behind the scene dramas that took place.
