Opiate Addiction Is A Growing Problem: Rapid Detox method Can Help

There is a growing problem in the world and it isn’t hunger or communicable disease. True, these problems span a much larger number of individuals, but this problem is just as life threatening and affects whole communities. It is the problem we face with people addicted to opiate drugs: Heroin, Morphine, hydrocodone, Vicodin, Oxycontin, Demerol, Percocet, Percodan, etc. People who are addicted to prescription narcotics will lose much in the way of life with family and production at work. The problem is that it is an addiction. Addictions to opiate medication (or heroin) can be extremely difficult to quit and abstain from.

This method is different than the way you might detox your body for general health and well-being reasons. This type of drug detox is of critical timing. The faster the detox process can be, the better. There is tremendous cellular binding of opiate drugs to the opiate receptor sites. The process of the rapid detox is done under medical anesthesia and literally is like flushing the receptor sites clear of the opiates. While under light anesthesia for approximately 1-2 hours or 4-6 hours depending upon the information you read, specific intravenous detox medications are flushed through one’s body. If this were to be attempted without being given anesthesia, there would be devastating withdrawal symptoms – this happens all the time with people addicted to these substances who have tried to quit.

Following the actual procedure, there is a period of observation to assure that one is ready to leave the facility and can be trusted to continue with their follow up. Follow up for these types of procedures varies greatly, as does price – see below – depending upon the rapid detox center you visit. You are not necessarily ‘done’ when you leave. There is continued follow-up counseling and assessments to ensure that your body is healthy and you are mentally and emotionally on track to reclaim your life and recover from your addiction. Only the most bare-bones clinics or centers basically just release you after your procedure with no follow-up. However, the attention to detail with your follow-up assessments can vary greatly from center to center, so this is something you will want to fully understand before you go in for your detox.

Additionally, there is an option at some centers and simply part of the procedure at others to use a Naltrexone implant as well. This refers to the small drug releasing implant that is placed in the abdomen during the anesthesia detox procedure. This drug blocks the opiate receptors from allowing the opiates to bind, thus reducing cravings. The implant usually dissolves in about two months after implantation. There are also pill forms of this drug that can be taken as well and are often used after the implant dissolves.

Developer of the Rapid Detox and the Weismann Method

As the name suggests, this type of drug detox was developed by Dr. Andre Waismann.  He is a medical doctor practicing in Israel.  His method is now called Accelerated NeuroRegulation (ANR) in the detox community.  Basically, what he discovered or rather developed was a method by which one could address the problem at the level of the central nervous system by addressing the opiate receptors.  There may be many reasons why someone might have begun their addiction:  war stress, a baby’s addiction from their mother, prescription abuse after a painful accident or surgery.  What Dr. Waismann is fond of saying is that his detractors have all sorts of theories regarding his methods and philosophy, but he has the results.  He has assisted thousand upon thousands of people break the cycle of addiction both personally and through those who would copy his methods.

Cost of the Rapid Opiate Detox (ROD) Procedure

This is a hugely problematic point to this procedure.  Since we live in a capitalist system, the free market reins.  This basically means that people can charge what ever they want as long as someone else will pay for it.  This isn’t said to sound harsh.  If a service is worth $X thousands of dollars, then people will pay it.  If the price is un-naturally inflated, then as long as people are telling the truth, the price should settle somewhere within a reasonable range.  This hasn’t seemed to have happened in some areas of the country with respect to the fees charged for this type of rapid detox procedure.

Some places charge in the neighborhood of $5,000 USD for this procedure.  Other places have quoted people up to $18,000.  Why the huge disparity?  Well, to be fair some facilities have much more 24/7 follow up and observation than others.  The higher costs are typically found in the rapid detox centers with nurses who observe their patients full-time and are able to give nearly one-on-one service and attention.  Still, other centers giving the same type of attention in-house can be found that charge much less.  One center found online charges $6,700 USD and states that they are happy to have the most affordable rapid drug detox fees in the United States.  Of course, with most centers, they are able to handle your fees through financing.
