High levesl of rat health is essential. Rats can often get dehydrated, they use their tails to balance their temperature, and they can't pant! As such it is important to always have clean, cool and fresh water in the cage at all times as well as keeping the cage out of direct sunlight.

If there is a blood colored discharge from your rats eyes or nose this is not in fact blood, it's porphyrin. If your pet rat should become sick, or you suspect anything is wrong, it is advisable to speak with your vet as soon as possible.
