Styling your hair

Ghetto hair styles used to be considered derogatory, and only for African Americans to wear.  However, over the years, the racial divide has been crossed and more people are enjoying the real ghetto hair styles that fit themselves.  Whether you get corn rows, spike your hair, or do something else that is completely off the wall, you will find more and more people are accepting of it.

One of the most common ghetto hairstyles that you will see are the corn rows.  Corn rows are usually seen in people who have longer hair, as it takes quite a bit of hair in order to make them.  Another unique problem with corn rows is that they require that your hair be tightly wound together.  This may cause some discomfort, and should not be attempted by people who are not willing to put up with the level of pain necessary.

Dreadlocks is yet another popular ghetto hairstyle.  While dreadlocks first came from Jamaica, they took off in the African American community as well.  Dreadlocks are another type of ghetto hairstyle that require a lot of hair in order to accomplish.  Dreadlocks are terribly difficult to clean, and can take as much as six to twelve months in order  to be accomplished.

Ghetto hairstyles are not just the stereotypical dreadlocks, afro or corn rows.  They include many hairstyles that simply are not seen in many other areas.  You will see anything from unique and strange colors in a persons hair, to extremely long hair that is made into amazing shapes and sizes. You will also see tools high quality tools, such as some of the  best hair straighteners used in very unorthodoxed ways like creating curls and kinks. But, in true 'ghetto' style, you can even create funky looks with budget hair straighteners. However, whenever you see a person with unique and different hairstyle, you can pretty much consider it to be a ghetto hairstyle.  There is no official definition or characteristic of a ghetto hairstyle.  You simply need to find the person or the hair style that is different than many other ones.

Adding hair extensions or weaving your hair into a pattern is a popular ghetto hairstyle.  Pulling your hair up or making it so that your hair looks like a bun can make your hair feel like it is even more of a ghetto hairstyle.
