This is the real me.
This is the real me.

The choice to use your real name or a pseudonym on Hubpages, or other such sites on the internet is yours and yours alone. A "pseudonym" is a fictitious alternatve to a person's legal name.

Now, having said that, do other hubbers like seeing someone use a pseudonym? Personally, I like to see who's hub I am reading. I like to know that there is a real face and real name attached to a hub. That is just my personal opinion.

I do understand fully that in this day and age, some may prefer to use a pseudonym because they may have something to say but they don't want others to know they are saying it. For instance, if you have a problem with someone who is always mean to you, you may want to use a pseudonym to get your point across to that person. If you want to be able to tell someone something that may hurt them, like, you know their spouse is cheating on them and you don't want to tell them to their face, you could use a psuedonym. If you have had problems with someone in the past or have had problems with someone trying to steal your identity online, you may want to use a psuedonym.

I use my real name and my real photo because I am a sort of internet celebrity. I have my own website that contains hundreds of children's stories that I have written. My website has been on the internet for ten years now and it is known worldwide. I want people on the internet to know who I am and what I do. I am proud of my accomplishments and want to show them off.

I can absolutely understand a person's decision to use a pseudonym but I do prefer to see a person's real face and real name. I think it is more a trust and honesty thing with me. I want to trust the person I am dealing with online and I want that person to be honest with me, because I know that in return, I can be trusted and I am honest.

I agree with you...I prefer to see someone's real name and face.

Some people don't want to use their real identity because of security reasons, but I think as long as you're careful you can use your real name and face.

:-)

I have no problems with people using another name to write under, especially in these days when identity theft is such a problem and in our stories we sometimes give away information that might well be useful to anyone wanting to hack into our computers.I am by nature a trusting soul and I pour out information almost at the drop of a hat without considering the consequences. Some of the pen names are so descriptive and colourful and I am sure that people can sometimes write with more freedom using one. As for me that is my photo Maggs

Thank you for your comment, maggs224. I agree with you about the freedom of being able to write with a pen name.

Hello. I can see both sides on this issue. I actually do use a pen name for my writting. Not only because of security, but I use a nickname given to me as a child by a deceased relative. My real name is very common, so I chose to pick a pseudonym that I thought was a little differnt, but also very personally defining to me. I would however not have a problem discussing my real name or showing my real picture to someone who was genuinely interested. Thanks!

A pseudonym is okay with me, however I do like a real person in the photo.
