Kvarner is a Croatian region located between Istria to the west and Dalmatia to the south. Administrative center of the region is Rijeka, a major Croatian port, but there are many tourist towns located around it. Opatija is a well known tourist destination with a tourist tradition over 100 years long and there are also other established destinations like Crikvenica, Novi Vinodolski, Segna and other. There are also several islands located in the Kvarner gulf like Krk, the biggest Croatian island, Cres, Rab and Losinj. The coastal region is unique due to its proximity to the mountain region of Gorski Kotar.
