Really Cheap Car Insurance For Young Drivers
57Insurance Companies That Offer Really Cheap Car Insurance For Young Drivers
Really cheap car insurance for young drivers isn't so much of a dream, with many insurance companies in the UK finding ways in which they can offer discounts to young drivers. Most young drivers are probably wondering why they have to pay so much for insurance just because they're under 25. Surely all young drivers cannot be that bad? Well, the answer is that it appears that young drivers are the result of a great portion of accidents on the road – in fact, 42 percent of accidents on the UK roads are caused by young drivers under 25. In 2008 a young driver was jailed for 13 months because of powersliding around a traffic island. The young man from Burntwood was not only driving dangerously but was also driving without car insurance and was accused of perverting the course of justice. Already in January 2009 a 23 year old driver has been convicted for a similar driving antic, being banned for 12 months from the road and charged with a hefty fine of £600. Young drivers may feel that these are the exceptions but studies show that they are not. Under 25's account for 35 percent of collisions on the road where drink driving has been the cause, and 50 percent of the cars on the roads that are not insured are owned by young drivers under the age of 29. The amount of accidents with uninsured cars comes to a total cost of £500 million a year to insurance companies, meaning that insurance companies add an extra £25 to £30 to premiums every year. In short, uninsured cars are a major contributing factor to the expensive prices. According to further studies by Norwich Union, 52 percent of young drivers (under the age of 21) spend less than £500 for their first car – meaning that most of these cars are not safe and many are unroadworthy. 40 percent of buyers who are buying for the first time don't check their cars for roadworthiness until the MOT certificate is due. It isn't all bad, though. Many insurance companies (but not all) are trying to provide discounts and options to young drivers, such as 30 to 50 percent discounts on the premiums if you drive for a year without claiming; a 12 to 38 percent discount for doing the Pass Plus driving course; or the option of insuring the car under the young driver's parents' name. This is usually known as 'fronting' and insurance companies have clamped down on the practice, but some insurance companies are now allowing for it to be done as long as its open and honest and the policyholder agrees to some conditions, such as the amount of driving the young person can do in the car. Some young, budding and fortunate entrepreneurs who are in their 20's and 30's have begun to start insurance companies that cater for young people. These insurance companies know what young people need and are more in tune with the young people's market. While there aren't too many, they are definitely out there, and its worth finding out about them. Fortunately, the internet is a very valuable tool in doing so. Really cheap car insurance is not an impossibility – research and shopping will reveal the company you are looking for. You just need to be diligent in finding them.
