When we visited the Parthenon shortly before the 2004 Olympics we discovered that there was a lot of work going on behind the scenes to restore the structure.

A few of the supporting pillars have been put back in place after painstaking restoration and refitting.

16 Years Later in 2002

If you look closely at the picture behind us you will see a lot of construction equipment and scaffolding.

Every piece that can be has been taken down, catalogued, cleaned, restored and is waiting to be put back into it's rightful place. For over 2000 years this incredible and beautiful building has epitomized the blending of engineering genius and beauty.

This project has gone on for years. No one knows how long it will take to finish the job.

Huge Agave Cactus

For you gardeners and horticulturists. I believe that this plant that sits beside the path that goes up to the Parthenon is an Agave. It is huge. Notice the size of the people in the background. I’ve never seen anything close to it in size before.

Wonderful Photographs!! When we visited the Parthenon in 2000 they had just begun some of the restoration. You may view photos of Greece as well as many other European and South American countries on our website if you so desire. All under the "Travel" category. Many blessings! ~K

Glad that you shared that with us - the Greeks have really kicked on, since the Olympics, and are working hard to repair and restore. I have not had chance to visit the new museum, but my friend said that it is truly awesome.

All it needs now is the Elgin Marbles.... :D
