I'm quite the voracious reader and enjoy selections from a wide variety of genres. My all time favorite genre is mystery and suspense, but recently I've been reading more science fiction.

Science Fiction & Fantasy

Some Science Fictions books I've read recently:

Frank Herbert's Dune

Dune is considered one of the monumental works in science-fiction. It's a book that has long gotten praise from critics as well as a number of my colleagues and friends who are heavily into science fiction. The book is a masterful look at the messiah concept, set in a science fiction setting. And the overall plot and storyline of the book are well crafted. However, for some--including myself--I found the book slow reading. This may have been due to the sometimes, in my opinion, over abundance of detail included in the book. However, I still think the book worth reading simply as a classic of science fiction.

Olvia Butler's Kindred

Kindred uses the the elements of science fiction/fantasy to explore the issue of slavery. It's a powerful tale that is sometimes terrifying in it's intensity. But it is nearly impossible to put down. It's extremely well crafted and Butler's writing is, in many ways, simply magical

Mystery Suspense

I am particularly fond of the mystery and suspense drama. More specifically, I love mystery and suspense novels featuring female protagonists. And I am keenly fond of mystery and suspense novels written by female authors.

My favorites in this area are Patricia Cornwell's works, featuring medical examiner Kay Scarpetta. I always find them entertaining as well as educational. I love how her characters develop within the novels, as well as the twists and turns in them.
