Recession Nears

Transform The Economy Now

Thousands Lose Their Jobs

The headlines go on and on. As a person with a job, the news may be a little frightening. But what if you own your own business? What if you're just getting started building your photography business, and you're getting a little nervous about your possibilities?

Can you really keep your studio open and running if we head into a recession?

Overwhelming, the answer is yes.

Through all the ups and downs, there will always be a need for good photographers. Business will proceed as usual IF you know how and where to look for business.

During a recession, it's not about knocking on doors, becoming the best cold call salesperson ever. It's about building strong, healthy relationships with those around you. The stronger your relationships, the stronger your business.

Let's say that you want to photograph thirty weddings per year. How many leads you need to generate those thirty weddings would depend on a number of factors:

  • How much do you charge for your weddings?
  • Do your leads know and understand your pricing before they contact you?
  • How good are you at turning leads into sales?
  • How well do your prospects know you?

If your leads are pre-qualified, have a lot of information on you and your services before they contact you, know and understand your pricing, and have a strong referral, you might only need thirty leads to book your thirty weddings.

But if your leads come in with little knowledge of you or your services, they call in 'blind' from a vague advertisement with little information, and don't match your criteria for your ideal client; you may end up having to meet ten to fifteen prospects before turning one of them into a client.

Which would you rather have for your business: thirty prospects turning into thirty clients, or 450 prospects turning into thirty clients? Obviously, your ultimate goal should be the first option.

Building relationships can literally transform your business because you are no longer out for looking clients - they come in looking for you. Your clients send in their family and friends because they trust you.

So start building up that trust. Spend time building up the relationships with your current clients. Over hard times, this strategy will come back to you tenfold.
