Before you begin going smoothie crazy, make sure you have a good quality blender. I reccommend using The Magic Bullet, Oster Beehive Blender or Hamilton Wavestation. But any other good quality one will do.
Important: The general rule for making smoothies is to add all the wet (liquid) ingredients first followed by solid (frozen fruits,fresh fruits or veggies) ingredients, then dry ingredients such as oats or sugar and then the last ingredient is ice.
Sarah's Best Fruit Smoothie Ever Recipe
2 cups frozen fruit (blackberries are ideal for this but you can any berry: blueberries, strawberries, frozen sweet cherries or raspberries)
2 1/2 cups low-fat milk (you can add non-fat milk to reduce calories and fat)
1/2 cup sugar (can also be substituted with Splenda or Truvia. Just follow substitution instructions on the package.)
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 scoops frozen sherbet (any kind)
Blend on low for 15-20 seconds and then on high for another 30 seconds.
Four Fruit Blend Smoothie
3/4 cup milk
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup applesauce
1 small ripe banana, halved
1/2 cup frozen raspberries
7-10 ice cubes
Blend on low for 15-20 seconds and then on high for another 30 seconds.
Pumped-Up Power Fruit Smoothie
1 large banana
5 strawberries, frozen or fresh
1/2 cup blueberries, frozen or fresh
1/4 cup frozen orange juice concentrate, or 1/2 cup orange juice
1-1 1/2 cup soymilk or rice milk
almonds or cashews or nut butter
flax seed (optional)
wheat germ (optional)
peach, slices (optional)
nectarine, slices (optional)
mango (optional)
guava (optional)
pineapple (optional)
Blend on low for 15-20 seconds and then on high for another 30 seconds.
This smoothie has a wonderful tropical flavor. It is also a great way to use up aging bananas. Just slice your aged bananas and freeze them so that you have them for this recipe at a later date.
Tropical Berry Smoothie
1 cup frozen red raspberries
2 cups frozen blackberries
1 kiwi, peeled
1/2 cup apple juice
1 cup sliced banana
1/2 cup low-fat plain yogurt
Blend on low for 15-20 seconds and then on high for another 30 seconds.
Perfectly Peachie Fruit Smoothie
1 cup frozen peaches or fresh peach
1 (8 ounce) container vanilla yogurt
1 cup skim milk
1/3 cup honey
Blend on low for 15-20 seconds and then on high for another 30 seconds.
Cherry Berry Smoothie
1 cup cranberry juice
1 cup frozen sweet cherries
1/2 cup frozen red raspberries
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon lemon juice
