Putting Up Corn on the Cob

While corn is plentiful in the summer months, prepare them for the freezer and use them well into the fall and winter. Have you priced the ones in the freezer section of your grocery store? With very little work, you can save on your picnic needs and put some away for winter use.

Shuck the corn making sure to get all of the silk off of the ears of corn.

Prepare a canning pot with boiling water. Add a teaspoon of salt and a teaspoon of sugar to the water.

Individually dip the ears of corn into the boiling water for 30 seconds. Do not overcook.

Place the blanched ears of corn on paper towels and dry completely. Place cooled ears of corn into a freezer bag and fill 3/4 full. Let the bags cool completely and then remove all air from bag and seal. Place the bag into the freezer.

By drying the ears individually and placing them into the bag totally cooled you can remove them from the bag and use them one by one.
