Recipes From Nunny - Miniature Lady Locks
68
Before I forget to include these cookies because they were not made every day or for Christmas, I want to include this specialty of Nunny's.
Nunny was the dedicated baker for wedding cookies. If she didn't make pizzelles, she was normally asked to make these. She made these so often that her husband made special pins for baking these from dowel pins. Nunny would cover them each time she needed them with fresh aluminum foil.
Lady Lock Ingredients
- 1 pound margarine
- 4 cups flour
- 1/2 pint sour cream
- 1 cup buttermilk
- pinch of salt
Mix margarine, flour and salt as you would for pie crust until fine particles are formed. Add sour cream and buttermilk. Dough will be a little sticky. Divide dough into 4. Refrigerate overnight or several hours. Cut each ball of dough in half and roll on floured board. (Not too Thin). Roll lenghwise until wider than a clothes pin. Cut strips 1 inch wide. Wrap dough around clothespins (dowel pins) overlapping a little. Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes. Well done.
Cream for Lady Locks
- 1-1/4 cupsmilk
- 2 tables spoons cornstarch
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup crisco
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Combine milk and cornstarch until there are no lumps. Heat until thick. Let cool. Beat together sugar, crisco and vanilla for 5 minutes. Blend into cream mixture and beat until smooth. Fill cookies with cookie press. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
