Since I had puff pastry sheets in the house, I decided to try my hand at turnovers. The experiment went well and I got 4 delicious turnovers for dessert tonight. What is so great about this recipe is that you don't have to be a pastry chef to achieve great desserts.

If you wish you can use cherry pie filing or blueberry pie filling instead of the apples but you will have leftover pie filling to use in another recipe.  You can also make this recipe really special by filling the turnovers with whipped cream just before you serve them.  Bon appitit!!!

Ingredients

  • 1 frozen puff pastry sheet
  • 2 small apples
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Defrost the sheet of puff pastrety. Roll the sheet open and cut into 4 squares.

Core the apples and slice thin. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon and mix well. Put an even amount of apples onto each square and fold over to make a triangle.

Line a small cookie sheet with wax paper and sprinkle with sugar (this is to make it easier to lift the turnovers off the paper after the the turnovers are baked.) Place your turnovers onto the sugared surface.

Brush egg whites or water on the tops of the turnovers and sprinkle with sugar.

Bake the turnovers for 15 minutes in a preheated 375°. Turnovers should be lightly browned.

Cool turnovers for 5 minutes on wax paper and then remove with a spatula to a serving dish.
