Top 10 Christmas Sugar Cookies
64I can't contain myself from sharing my love for these yuletide tidbits of joy. Every December, (sometimes even late November!) I become addicted to the thought of Christmas sugar cookies! I am guessing that with most people like me, the act of making these tasty morsels signals that the season is REALLY upon us. Without sugar cookies, it just wouldn't feel like Christmas. I can't contain myself over the thought of making them, icing them, and finally EATING THEM!! I think this started at a very young age when my mom always made them at Christmas time. So, I have compiled my favorite list of my Top Ten Christmas Sugar cookie recipes. I have listed 4 of the 10 Top recipes right here. But first, here's my complete list in order. Please enjoy!

#2 - Sugar Cookie Drops
INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
- 1 cup white sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/2 cup white sugar (for decoration)
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). In a large bowl, cream together the butter, oil, confectioners' sugar, and 1 cup white sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, and stir in the vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar; stir into the creamed mixture. Roll dough into 1 inch balls, and then roll the balls in remaining white sugar. Place onto ungreased cookie sheets, and flatten with a fork. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the edges begin to brown. Cool on wire racks.
#3 - Molasses Sugar Cookies
INGREDIENTS
- 1 1/2 cups shortening
- 2 cups white sugar
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 2 eggs
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 4 teaspoons baking soda
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon salt
DIRECTIONS
Melt the shortening in a large pan on the stove, and cool. Add sugar, eggs, and molasses, beat well. In a separate bowl, sift dry ingredients together and add to the pan. Mix well and chill 3 hours or overnight. Form into walnut-size balls. Roll in granulated sugar. Place on greased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 8-10 minutes. Store in an airtight container to keep from getting overly crisp. If they do lose their softness, an easy way to restore it is to place one slice of fresh bread in the container with the cookies for a couple of hours or overnight and they will be soft again!
#4 - Peanut Butter Blossoms
INGREDIENTS
- 1/2 cup Butter Shortening
- 1/2 cup Creamy Peanut Butter
- 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 3/4 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Sugar (for rolling>
- 48 foil-wrapped milk chocolate pieces, unwrapped
Directions
- HEAT oven to 375°F.
- CREAM together shortening, peanut butter, brown sugar and 1/2 cup sugar. Add egg, milk and vanilla. Beat well.
- STIR together flour, baking soda and salt. Add to creamed mixture. Beat on low speed until stiff dough forms.
- SHAPE into 1-inch balls. Roll in sugar. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
- BAKE 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
- TOP each cookie immediately with an unwrapped chocolate piece, pressing down firmly so that cookie cracks around edge. Remove from cookie sheets to cool.
#5 - Easy Sugar Cookies
INGREDIENTS
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in egg and vanilla. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden. Let stand on cookie sheet two minutes before removing to cool on wire racks.
